Hello,
I was wondering if you have an approximate age for her or place and year of birth?
What makes you suspect that she may have married for a third time?
Not all deaths have parents' names and even those that do may not always be correct.
Any additional inforamtion can help in searching.
Alice Stewart is a common combination and whilst there are one or two in the WA records none are Alice Maude. Nothing in the Tasmanian records either.

Hi,
Perhaps this is the death of James Alexander Stewart in 1922 and then the marriage of Alice ???
Marriages in Qld.
1924/C362 Irvine Walter Leslie Stewart Alice Maud
Deaths in Queensland
1927/C915 Stewart James Alexander

Qld deaths only go to 1929 online and there is no death of
Alice Maud Leslie up to that date.

thanks for your help
alice was born to James Woolrich Jackson and Janet May 1862 nsw she was 16 when 1st married I have searched high and low for her death.

My apologies to Mariac but I read the marriage as Surname Irvine, first names Walter Leslie.
I suspected this death but the parents are Irvine.
1929/B9830 Irvine Alice Maud Peter James Irvine Sarah Maud Ryan
This is obviously an unmarried daughter of the couple above.
We can hope someone who has the QLD indexes can look a bit later than 1929.

Hi genefinder,
Lots of questions from me, I'm afraid! :)
Did all of the above events take place in NSW?
Do you have the certificates (or transcriptions of them) for all of the above events?
There is an 1862 birth:
278/1862, Birth, JACKSON Alice M, father James W, mother Jeanette V, place Sydney
And the probable marriage of Alice M's parents in the previous year:
208/1861, Marriage, JACKSON James W, MAY Janette V, place Sydney
Is this your family??
Do you know for certain that your Alice M JACKSON married at least twice - once to a Mr COLEMAN and once to a Mr STEWART (i.e. do you have the certificates)?
There is an 1878 marriage as follows:
1582/1878, Marriage, COLEMAN John, JACKSON Alice M, place Glebe
Does the certificate prove that this is "your" Alice M?
When did John COLEMAN die?
If Alice was a widow, her second marriage would normally be expected to be in her previous married name i.e. COLEMAN. However, I can find no marriage between a male STEWART and a female COLEMAN in NSW between 1890 and 1900.
Did the second marriage of "your" Alice M take place in NSW?
And does the certificate prove that it is "your" Alice M?
Assuming that Alice might have re-married under her maiden name, I searched for marriages between a male STEWART and a female JACKSON in NSW in 1896. There was only one - and the bride was listed as Alice M JACKSON. However the groom's given name is John not James.
4264/1896, Marriage, STEWART John A, JACKSON Alice M, place Sydney
Also, I can find only one 1898 birth of a James STEWART in NSW but the father's given name is John not James.
32947/1898, Birth, STEWART James B, father John A, mother Alice M, place Newcastle
Here is a death which might be of interest:
14332/1958, Death, COLEMAN Alice Maude, father James Woolcott, mother unknown, place Katoomba
Best of luck with your research.
Kind regards,
JAP

annecaroline,
Many many thanks for your post of 14 Apr with kind acknowledgement and the death notice which clinches it!
I don't know how you found it but it is brilliant!
regross,
Many many thanks for your kind acknowledgement of 14 Apr.
I didn't respond immediately to either of your posts as I was expecting a response (excited?) from genefinder.
genefinder,
You didn't respond to my questions of 14 Apr but it's pleasing to see that you have now (17 Apr) seen the information provided on the thread.
It would, I'm sure, be of interest to all of us who have done our best to help you on this thread if you were to post the information when you get the death cert (though there's surely no doubt that it is "your" Alice Maude).
Kindest regards to all,
JAP

Hi All,
Just as a footnote.

Hello Sue (sparrett),
What a fascinating piece of information!
Divorced, eh!!
It would be interesting to see those papers (if only to check whether it is genefinder's Alice Maude!). It doesn't seem to be entirely clear from the index which was the Petitioner and which the Respondent.
And let's hope that genefinder didn't already know about this but didn't pass on the info. :'(
Raises lots of questions if it is the right Alice Maude - e.g. why would she subsequently apparently go by the name of her divorced husband, etc, etc ...
And what happened to Sydney BROWN ....
Anyway, it's a great find!
Let's hope more explanations are forthcoming ...
Best regards,
JAP
-
Good sleuthing people.
Sydney Brown may well have been a pawn used to prove misconduct!!!!! Not unkown in those days when divorce was a scandal and very hard to legally obtain. It would be nice to get a copy and see what actually went on.

Hi All,
I should just add this birth
6222/1882 COLEMAN, JOHN R .father JOHN mother ALICE @ GLEBE
upon which I based the statement......
This is possibly his death .
6759/1904 COLEMAN, JOHN R father JOHN mother ROSE. @ PENRITH SUE
The obituary tells us of a son John to Alice.
MMmmmm...lot of assumptions in this on my part. I think >:( Maybe not

Yes,she seems to have married Mr. STEWART as JACKSON after the divorce.
Died as COLEMAN bracketed STEWART.
I note John jnr. kept the COLEMAN name.
