I am looking for a photo of the old Butchers arms in Llandrinio which was demolished in the early part of the 20th century, my husbands family tree has John & Eliza Burgess in it & they kept the pub for many years.
I cant find much information about the pub after much searching.

I'm sorry it's not a picture, but if you look on www.old-maps.co.uk and enter the village, the Butchers Arms is shown on the map.

I've had a quick look on Google maps corb, and there is nothing left of the pub, as the area seems to have been returned to a field.

I found this on the Llandrinio Community website:
"Village of Pubs:
In the past the village had a number of pubs – The Butchers Arms (where Laburnum House used to be, now the site of Severn Trent’s sewage treatment plant), The Crown (now the property known as Severnside) and The Boat House (by the bridge). The Boat took its name from the boat that used to come from Bridgnorth after the fairs and markets had ceased and carried away the local produce. An Inn frequented by the boatmen of the Severn it became a Tontine Club, notorious for its drunkenness and rioting. The Bell Inn (now known as Bell Cottage) was situated by Maerdu alongside the canal."

I found a mention of this place just a few miles away from Llandrinio. I wonder if maybe they changed locations when the old one was apparently demolished:

Hello. I lived at Laburnum House, (formerly The Butchers Arms) Llandrinio from 1944 until 1966.
I may be able to give you some information, (initially contact by e-mail would be preferable).

Hi, I'm surprised that you've not replied to my response of 30/10/20.
As I said, I was born at Laburnum House (formerly The Butchers Arms) in 1944.
I left and married in1966. Other family members remained until my father sold
the property in the 1970s. Later, it was demolished. Ownership of the property
is now with Severn Trent Water.
As previously stated I have some news for you regarding the Burgess family.

Thank you so much for responding and for alerting me to the responses! I would love the additional Burgess info or other about the Butcher's Arms. I think that the last time I was on this forum was about 9 years ago, so I'm extra-delighted to hear from you on the forum.
I understand that my 2nd great grandfather, John Burgess, was the proprietor there around the turn of the last century. I've since visited a 2nd cousin who lives not too far from there, and he showed me the town, the area, and John's headstone. I spoke with the fellow who had recently purchased, moved into, and remodeled the house that John lived in. The apartment flat on the same street looks to have been a remodeled Butchers Arms, actually. A great uncle went to the Catholic school down the street from there, and drowned in the Severn.
