Title: John Beerclark(e) & Francis Kelly
Post by: berlor on Sunday 12 April 09 05:27 BST (UK)
I have a Francis Deborah Mary Jemima Beerclark(e) in my family line, her parents were John Beerclark(e) and Francis Kelly.

Her marriage certificate in 1864 states she was born in Lancashire about 1842. I cannot find any more reference to the Beerclark(e) surname other than her father's name and that a Beerclark(e) died on the ship while travelling to Australia.

Also have the surname of Dyest in the line but can only find three references in Australia but they must have come from somewhere. What nationality is the surname Dyest?

Any assistance will be very welcome.

Regards
Berlor

Hi

Quote
and that a Beerclark(e) died on the ship while travelling to Australia

What year was that and where did the ship sail from

There are no matches on any census or BMD records anywhere for that surname

Hi CaroleW

I do not have any information regarding the Beerclark(e) who died coming out to Australia other than it was a female. This record is on the site at familysearch.org/eng/search and has been put there by a person researching her family. I do not know how correct that entry is.

On the marriage certificate of Francis Deborah Mary Jemima Beerclark(e) she states that her birthplace was Lancashire. Her death certificate states she was born in Liverpool. Also the death certificate states she was in Australia for 63 years, so she was 11 years old when she came to Australia. I do not know if she came with her parents or a relative and so far I have not been able to find a death of John Beerclark(e) in Australia.

What names witness this 1864 marriage?

Hi Berlor  :)

I can't help but think that 'Beerclark' is a misheard name.

Free BMDs has a Frances Deborah BARNETT, b. Liverpool, 2nd quarter 1841, vol 20 page 293.

Can't see her on the 1841 census unfortunately, perhaps she was born just afterwards.

Hope this helps
 :) Barbara

I had also wondered about the surname being "spelt as spoken" rather than the correct way.

Looking at the link above - I wonder if it was a hyphenated surname Beer-Clark(e)

Hi Pauline

In regards to the witnesses to the Beaton-Beerclark marriage, they were E. Russell and Sarah Noakes.

Those names don't mean anything to me.

Hi all

This is a copy of my post from yesterday and I have been redirected to this thread ...

I don't often look south of the border for information  but I'm really needing a bit of help here with his lady - also in my tree - called Frances Deborah Mary Jemima Beer-Clark!

First let me say, Frances's surname has been a hard one to track down as it's been registered variously as Beer-Clark/e, Beerclark/e, Clark/e

I believe she was born 1842 in Liverpool, Lancs and know she died 31 Oct 1916 in Mackay District Hospital, Queensland, Australia.  She was the daughter of John BEER-CLARK and Frances KELLY.

Now to add a bit more to the confusion ... I know she married Donald BEATON in Bowen, Queensland, Australia on 27 Jun 1864 and that he was born in 1835 in Kilmore, Argyllshire, Scotland.

As an aside ... Their daughter Sylvia Ronilda Frances BEATON was born 4 Nov 1865 in Bowen, Queensland, Australia and died 14 Sep 1930 in Charter Towers, Queensland.  She married twice - first to a Prussian, Julius Christopher Albert GRAFFUNDER and then James HARRISON.  Between the three of them they had some nine children.  One of Julius and Sylvia's sons died at Gallipoli in 1915 and one of the Harrison sons died at the Somme in the following year.

I'm looking to try and find when her parents' - John and Frances's - emigration down-under took place - assuming it did and if there is any Census information prior to their departure.

I hope there are some answers out there.

Hi Chiad

I don't think Frances Clarke is the lady we are looking for.

The marriage certificate for Francis Deborah Mary Jemima Beerclark (27 June 1864) states that she was 22 years old when she married. That would make a date of birth around 1842. The name on the certificate is Francis Deborah Mary Jemima Beer Clark but I am not sure who wrote the name.

I can send you a copy of the marriage certificate. Let me know if you want it.
