Title: Dunnes of Brittas,Clonaslee,Co Laois,Ireland
Post by: jimk on Saturday 11 April 09 13:35 BST (UK)
Hi
I am researching a History of the Dunne Family, from Brittas House,Clonaslee,Co Laois (Queens County).
The Dunnes were the Landlords of Clonaslee and 5 generations of them lived in Brittas House.
Today that Dunne Family has died out and Brittas House suffered a fire in the 50's.
If anyone has any information on this family i would be very interested.
Thanks.
Jim K.

I have an interest in them as well.  Samuel Low of Clonerril, spelled multiple ways and actually Clonearl, and several places right around there, in Kings County east of Tullamore, kept deeding land to this family.    I was just Googling to find out who they were.   In fact, if you'd private message me a way to contact you, I could use whatever info you have collected.

Incidentally, there is something on them on a roll of film at LDS.   101011.   Items 1-3 are Dunne family of Brittas, Queen's County, extracts and copies of documents, wills, deeds, leases, pedigrees, etc. relating to the family.   Now, I had this roll of film and that is the great bucn of stuff in which I found the deed in which Samuel Low of Clonerril sold part of his father's estate at Knockicoster, proving my suspicion that he was that man's son.   I didn't realize the signficance of this family at that time, however, and the roll of film has gone back.  It was generally of the Upton Papers.   Has alot of stuff.   Item 6 si Dunne famly of Brittas as well.

I have a Bridget Daly from Clonaslee married to a John Dunn.  I know they had a son John.  Believe Bridget was born April 1816.  Bridget and her son eventually came to Poultney, VT.  Not sure what happened to John Dunn.

I also have an Ann Delehanty (her parents were Catherine Daly and Patrick Delehanty) married to a William Dunn.  Ann and William married in Clonaslee in 1860.  They also migrated to Poultney, Vt.

If this matches anyone else's info please let me know.

In the Upton Papers, Church of Latterday Saints has some extensive notes on Dunne family genealogy.   Find it in the card catalogue at http://www.familysearch.com (I think)

I have traced my fathers line back to a marriage registry of William Dunne and Ann Delehanty.  From Church: LAOIS, Clonaslee Parish Register, Marriages - 1849 - 1881 (Incomplete - parts only)

I have listed the link below.

http://www.igp-web.com/IGPArchives/ire/laois/churches/clonaslee-mar.txt

They immigrated to Vermont, USA sometime after 1864.  Anyone with further information on them in Ireland is appreciated.  I can find no reference to William Dunne/Dunn parents as of yet.

Hi, supposedly, I read this online before, that the closest decendents of the Brittashouse Dunne family are the DUNNE store owners.

I am researching a Dunne family in Western Australia.
Edward Dunne was born C.1812 in Bally Brittas as stated on his enlistment papers for the Kings Own Regiment of 4th Foot in 1830. Later discharged in 1850 for health reasons. He married Mary Molloy in 1849 in Winchester, Hampshire, England. They had two children before departing on the Ramillies 1854 for WA. Edward came as a Pensioner Guard. He died 1873 in Fremantle, WA.

Mary Molloy whom he married had a brother James Henry Molloy who also originated from Ballybrittas and served with the 4th Foot before being discharged in 1850. He also was a Pensioner Guard to Australia in 1852 on the Fairlie but to Hobart VDL. He died 1894 in Fiji.

Would any one be in the know of the Parents of Edward Dunne?
