Hello Dusty :)
Welcome to Rootschat ;D
We try to be helpful - but Miller in Norwich is a big vague :-\ :o
Have you got any names or dates to give us a hint of where to start ::)
-

-

as you mentined Norwich - this could be your chap .... If he was born in late Nov, December 1891, he might not have had his birth registered until the J/F/M quarter of 1892..
Births Mar 1892
Miller Alfred James Norwich Vol 4b Page 169
lets see if he can be found, with parents on the 1901 census ...
-
According to the 1901 census there is an Alfred MILLER born approx 1890 living at 134. Millers Lane Norwich father Robert born approx 1853 and mother Mary together with numerous siblings.
Could he be the chap?
-
Any connection to Yarmouth you know of ?
This chap has the right initial and YoB - but theres another lad born Norwich 1891 +/- 1 year who may also be a candidate, albeit with no middle initial...
you will have to get his Birth Cert (details above) to be 100% certain .... unless you recognise any of these names ?
1901 - RG13/1811; Folio: 45; Page: 34 - Great Yarmouth

James Miller 35 Head Woodworking Machinist (categorised Sawyer) born London, Middx
Ellen A Miller 36 Wife Norwich
Ellen M Miller 12 dau Norwich
Edith M Miller 11 dau do
Alfred J Miller 9 son Norwich
Frances V Miller 3 dau Great Yarmouth
Sidney Miller 1 son do
Added: Looking at the 1891 census, James was born in Tottenham, Middx.
Looking further back, his father was Francis (c1821) from Bramerton, Norfolk - a ship Brokers Clerk.
1861 shows a PoB of Brandon - and he is married to Emily from Surlingham, already in Tottenham .... oldest child is 5.
Possible marriage:-
Marriages Sep 1854
Miller Francis Norwich v4b p275 to Nobbs Emily
Emily can be seen in 1851 Surlingham, with Father Robert.
Francis is also in the area - farming 130 acres, with 13 men !

with all my thank to LKL FOR ALL THE HELP dusyyboy
-
hi Dusty - you must be a Miller too ;)
you will have to get his Birth Cert (details above) to be 100% certain
when you do, please let me know the Father's name and I will flesh out the above findings if correct :)
-
It reads like LKL may have found the right person....
However from the Free BMD Site (Births, Marriages, Deaths) :
In the June quarter of 1915 in Norwich an Alfred J MILLER married Hilda M AMOND (page ref 4b 503)
In the September quarter of 1915 an Alfred J MILLER married May E POLL (page ref 4b 370)
If either of those names mean anything then for £8.50 you can buy the relevant marriage certificate buy quoting the references given.
You can do it by phone on 0845 603 7788.
A marriage certificate will give you the age, address and occupation of the two people getting married as well has the name and occupation of both FATHERS which gives a clue for going back further.
The certificate also gives the name of the witnesses to the marriage which can also sometimes be useful in helping find ancestors.
Hope this helps.
