Dear Swallowtail,
Is this the death you are talking about? Taken from NSW BDM
http://www.bdm.nsw.gov.au/familyHistory/search.htm

registration number:1004
Date: 1887
Name:FORBES      PETER W W
Father:JOHN A
Mother: MARY
Place: SYDNEY

If so, there are several births listed to a Peter WW Forbes on the same site.

Cheers
Susie

Hi Susie,

Yes that is correct, I have a copy of his death certificate, he is the eldest brother of my GGGrandfather Mackenzie Alexander Forbes, are you related to Peter?
I know there was a Valentine Forbes but the trail in Australia runs out for me there.

I hope you are,

Swallowtail  :)

Dear Swallowtail,
Sorry, I am not related........but going by the number of children listed to him, I am sure there will be relatives still around!

As he died in Sydney, he would have been buried in the Rookwood Cemetery and I have located his grave in the Independent Section
Presbyterian     Section: 6A    Grave Number: 0001965   Name: FORBES    PETER WILLIAM D     Date of Burial: 26 Jun 1887

There are Rootschatters who will take a photo of the grave if you put up a new post asking for "Photos at Rookwood" and give them this information.

I am not sure if Valentine is correct as he was born some years after Peter died (if this is the correct Peter)

Registration Number:881
Date:1893
Name:  FORBES      VALENTINE C
Father: PETER W M
Mother:CHRISTINA
Place: SYDNEY

If you go to the NSW BDM site http://www.bdm.nsw.gov.au/familyHistory/search.htm
and select births with Forbes as the surname and Peter as the father's name, lots of children come up for Peter and Christina, but some of them are listed as being born after Peter dies.

If Valentine is related, his death record is
Registration Number:20429
Date:1957
Name: FORBES      VALENTINE CAMERON
Father:PETER WILLIAM M
Mother:CHRISTINA
Place:NEWTOWN

Valentine also fought in WW1 and his service records are digitised. You can view them by going to http://www.naa.gov.au/collection/recordsearch/index.aspx

Use the Search now as a guest user option, the enter Valentine Forbes and his record will be displayed.

Hope this helps.........but I am confused by the dates  for Valentine's birth well after Peter's death.

Cheers
Susie

William Julian born 1880 died 1940
George T born 1884
Samuel W born 1886
Amelia 1882

There may have been more children born, but as you know there is no census for that time,
Thank you for the information on Valetine WW1 record.
Rather sad really Peter and Mackenzie where the only two to survive and they lived a world apart and from what I have learn were estranged.

So I will keep my fingers crossed that there is someone else looking for the Forbes Family.

Hi

Had a quick look at your family details posted above and hope you find the following few snippets of data useful.

I note a William Joseph Minshaw FORBES on the Queensland electoral rolls from 1903 to 1925.  His occupation was butcher.  Do you think he may be of yours?  The name Minshaw is  most unusual.

FORBES William Joseph Minshaw was buried in the Toowong Cemetery   on the 19 Apr 1932  Aged 79 years

In the same grave is his wife Martha FORBES who died on 12 Nov 1906 aged 61 years.

Marriage Queensland
1875/C160
FORBES   William Joseph Minshaw
BARRETT Martha

There are five births to this couple on
https://www.bdm.qld.gov.au/IndexSearch/BirIndexQry.m

You mention that Christina CAMERON was the wife of Peter William Minshaw FORBES however this marriage reg shows his wife to be Sarah CAMERON and the birth indexes have her as Christina.  Perhaps she was Sarah Christina.

1256/1877
FORBES  Peter  William M
CAMERON  Sarah
District Sydney

James Samuel FORBES son of Peter WD and Amelia - you have a death of 1893 however there is this death in NSW

8242/1931
FORBES   James S
Father Peter W D      Mother Amelia
District Glebe

Another death
22338/1936
SCURR  Mary Amelia
Father Peter William D      Mother Amelia Reed
District Newtown

This marriage may be Hannah Rachel :-\
429/1878
CAVILL  Francis Walter
FORBES  Hannah R
District Sydney

Death of a child in 1800 and there is another in 1879 but I detail this one as it is the same year as the death of Ann R CAVILL possibly Hannah R.

Deaths
1837/1880
CAVILL  Walter H
Father Francis W   Mother Hannah R
District Sydney

1643/1880
CAVILL     Ann R

Married 22 Dec 1877 in Sydney NSW Australia

Hi Swallowtail

Thank you for sending  2 attachments. Are the 2 attachments on this chat? I do not know where the 2 attachments are. I looked at help and I did not find anything on attachments. I thought we could not attach anything.

I will have another look but I am new to this so I am a bit slow on how it all works.

I will be away for a week leaving Friday Australian time so will have to try and work it out when I get back.

Any hints will be greatly appreciated.

Did you want anymore info from Me?

The headstone of Peter William Downes Forbes

The headstone is a nice looking sandstone.
On the top is an insignia of The Masons
                        Masons In Insignia
63                                                                14.6.1879
         IN LOVING MEMORY
         MY DEAR HUSBAND
            P.W.D. FORBES
DUST TO ITS NARROW HOUSE BENEATH
SOUL TO ITS PLACE ON HIGH
THEY THAT HAVE SEEN THY LOOK OF DEATH
NO MORE MAY FEAR TO DIE

      AMELIA FORBES
66                                               20.10.1893
TO LIVE IN HEARTS WE LEAVE BEHIND
NOT TO DIE BUT GONE FOR A LONG SLEEP

         -oOo-

Vandals had pushed the headstone over. The caretaker said not to stand it up again because the next time they push it over they could break it. It was sad to see the damage the vandals had done to the graves and headstones. This is the oldest part of the cemetery close to the road & close to the Lidcome Hotel. After closing the larrikins go down & take pleasure in vandalising what they can.
These notes were made in 1970
