I am looking ::) for John Robinson (Robison) born c 1803 who was living in New Quay, Newcastle in 1864; Info from son James (b 1846) & Mary Morrow's Marriage Certificate. John was married to an Elisabeth (Elizabeth) Unknown who was born in Woodbridge, Suffolk info from 1851 Census at Wall Knoll, All Saints, Newcastle, John wasn't at home that night!
I know that Elisabeth died before the 1861 census. I would love to know her maiden name. We have links to Coronation Street Tynemouth where James died in 1918 (buried at Preston Cemetery) perhaps living with his son Daniel, and Wall Knoll, All Saints, Newcastle 1851 census but I have been unable to get back any further. The name changing from Robinson to Robison through the ages just hasn't helped me at all so I would appreciate any help through or sideways around the brick wall that I have encountered.
:) Thanks in advance :) Mike

Forgive me, but I find this all very confusing.
Firstly, how do you know John's year of birth and where he was living in 1864 from his son, James's marriage cert? That will give James age and address, but as far as his father is concerned will surely only give his name and occupation?
Secondly, how do you know that an Elizabeth on her own on the 1851 census is John's wife ?
Do you have James's birth cert? Do you know from later censuses where/when he was born? His birth cert will give his mothers maiden name.

Hi Liz,
Thanks for reply :) - Firstly I know the line down to James is correct (all documented by family) and have visited his grave and residences in Tynemouth where he lived in later life. He was a Herbalist which made it easy to track. So I'll re-present the Data I have.
1851 Census All Saints, Newcastle. Mother, Head & Married Elisabeth Robison Age 50 (b Woodbridge, Suffolk), with Daughter Elisabeth, 3 other daughters and 3 Sons incl James b 1846. Husband John not present. 1861 Census in Gateshead finds John age 60 a Widow with 6 of the children all unmarried. Marriage of son James (now Robinson) to Mary Morrow in 1864 residence New Quay (so I presumed living with Father, who could have moved again as Gateshead isn't very far) I tried to get James Birth Certificate and after providing correct data (Mother Elisabeth etc) received a wrong-un (Mother Hannah - I got no joy when I complained so have not tried again at £7 a go) Am trying other options just in case I have a relation out there with the info I need. Does this clarify? Mike

Thanks for that information Girls, being new to this I got 2 replies and don't know how to reply to you individually so will mention you both here;
from Barbara - Info looks very good (Now I have 3 surnames to deal with!!) Also wasn't aware you could contact the local register office for FREE information. Will give that a go.
and to Lizdb that birth looks OK too.
Brilliant - I think I'll now enlist Rootschat to help me find My Schofields in Sunderland!
So thanks to you both
Mike

Girls, Liz, there's a compliment :D
Hi Mike, the free check from the local reg office only works if you're actually buying the cert, they only check your known info, not allowed to give out anything you don't know.
Surnames vary a lot on census and bmds, often depending on how they spoke and who wrote it down - we all have lots of variations in our family surnames
You don't need to reply to us personally, a reply like this on the thread is fine, then we all know you've seen the information given, (but if you want to send a personal message to anyone, just click on the little green scroll next to the little face below their names).
Kind regards
Barbara :)

I finally found Elizabeth DAVEY and her Marriage date to John ROBSON in 1822 but still can't locate Elizabeth's birth in Woodbridge.
