Title: 1901 Census - 17 Crown Street, Derby
Post by: Elain on Sunday 05 April 09 16:04 BST (UK)
Hi

I was wondering if anyone can give me the names of the family who lived at 17 Crown Street, Derby in the 1901 census?

This address appeared on a birth certificate for my grandfather in 1902 and I am wondering if there is a family link.

I have tried to locate this address using FindMyPast but nothing comes up in my search.

I am not sure of this street still exists in Derby?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks....Elaine

Hi,

According to the enumerator route for District 59 it should be there but I can`t see it.

The enumeration district starts on RG13/3220 folio 53 page 1 to folio 76 page 48.

Regards,
Mo

Hi Mo,

Thanks for that info.  Would there be any particular reason why you can't see it?"

I also can't find this address in any census years via FindMyPast either - any ideas!!!!

As I don't live anywhere near Derby how can I find out these details if not through any census.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Regards.....Elaine

Hi,

I have trawled at least twice through that enumeration district (all 48 pages) and it just isn`t there altough it states it was there by the enumerator. ::)  I suspect that it was perhaps a "new build"  like quite a few of the streets around e.g. May Street which wasn`t numbered because they were new houses. Perhaps there was actually nobody living on Crown Street at the time.  By 1911 it was occupied by a George Hall aged 25, his wife and 5 month old child, so not a lot of help.

Sorry,
Mo

I have a street map of Derby.  Crown Street certainly still exists.

If you go on Find my past's 1901 census.  They have a 'who lived in your house' section.  Just type 17, Crown Street, Derby, Derbyshire, and Crown Street will come up.  Just been on the site myself, but unfortunately they charge 75 credits to view them.

Just a suggestion.

Hi Elaine

My mother in law lives on Woods Lane, right next to Crown Street.
Most of the original terraced houses are still there , if you want me to take a picture for you thats no problem.
Alternatively you can check this street out on Google's street view which should give you a good idea of what the area is like.

Hope this helps
Paul
