Hi All
I'm desperately trying to find a photograph of this lady, born in 1881. Her mother was Lucy Ann Pease (of the Pease family in Darlington", her father was Robert Robinson, Civil Engineer, and they lived at Beechwood, Grange Road, Darlington.
Enid married Dr Charles Stanley Steavenson in 1911, and they lived at Felix House, Middleton St George.
Can anyone help?
Regards

Hello Lynn,
I would suggest your best bet would be to contact Darlington Library which was founded by Edward Pease
http://www.darlington.gov.uk/Education/Library/Library%20Service.htm
Katherine Williamson of the Centre for Local Studies can be contacted by email, and I'm sure she will be able to help. Please keep us informed, especially if you don't find an answer.
Regards,
Colin

Hi Colin
Thanks for your response and suggestion. Strangely enough, I contacted Katherine at the library earlier this week, who was extremely helpful, but unfortunately she's been unable to find any photographs of Enid.
I'll keep my fingers crossed for further responses.
Best regards

Might the local newspaper of that time have a photo?
You'd need to find out where it is archived...
just a thought.

The Northern Echo was first published 1870 and the library at Darlington has copies also the Darlington and Stockton Times was published then also Darlingtn library, The papers are across the road from Library.

So there maybe soemthing in the newspapers...
Maybe a marriage photo if she was a big wheel in the area... or a photo with her obit.
Have you tried to find her death ?

There could be a problem here.
Enid was born in Darlington but her marriage was recorded in the Scarborough District, so it would depend on how important that marriage was, if it was reported in the Darlington papers. If you have a date I will check to see if it made the papers.

Colin

Thank you JR, Carlotte and Colin for your kind replies, I appreciate your time and effort.
Colin I now have a marriage certificate, with a date of October 17th 1911. I will take you up on your kind offer if you're still willing to check the newspaper?
I greatly appreciate all help given.

Hi Lynn,
I caught your message just before I went to the library so I checked the Northern Echo and the North Star but found nothing. It's not surprising really, because I had noted the date as 17th Nov :-[ :-[ :-[
I'll have another look but there were very few photos in them.

Colin

Hi Lynn,
I've checked the correct date but there was no mention of the marriage in Darlington's local papers. Perhaps the Scarborough papers might have something.

Hi Colin
Sad news for me, but I really appreciate your time spent on this, I can't thank you enough.
I'll try Scarborough as you suggest.
Many thanks again.

Thank you Creamegg, I was aware of the first article as I was researching for the guy that bought the diary, but wasn't aware that the Echo had published another article, so thank you so much for that, I appreciate you taking the time to let me know.

Hi. I have just seen your request for a photo of Enid Steavenson and I have one with her daughter Ione. It may be from the Northern Echo or the Darlington and Stockton Times. I found it in my uncle's belongings when he died as my Great Uncle used to milk the goats for them and I used to go and help. Also, my Great Aunt used to make Mrs Steavenson's breakfasts and I would serve it to her in her bedroom. She also combed her hair for her and did domestic type jobs. Hope this is of some help. I also have letters she wrote to my great uncle and she also wrote to me when I was a child. Don't know if my letters at still at my father's house - it would be around 45 years plus ago. Hope this is of some help. Lesley

Hi Lesley
thank you for your response, it was a surprise as it's been some time since I posted this.
I've been researching Enid for a friend, who bought one of her diaries at an auction. He's from the Staithes area, and the diary covered life on holiday in Staithes with her mother. Part one is now in print (with the blessing of her other daughter ) but I'm sure he'd be excited to hear that you've been in touch.
may I contact him and inform him of your response, as I'm sure he'd like to contact you?
regards

Hi Lynn it has taken me ages to find your reply as I really don't know how to use this root chat thread! I have now found two letters that she wrote to my Great Uncle and she is reminiscing about her time in Italy and how Queen Victoria and young Princess Victoria used to visit the gardens to paint etc. The letters are fascinating. How on earth do I get in touch with you without giving me email address in this note? Regards Lesley. PS her husband, old doctor steavenson delivered me at home and I weighed in over 11lbs! (female).

Hi Lynn
I expect you are aware of the Pease/Davidson Family Tree on Ancestry. It has a lot of presumably very authentic information.
However it does not mention Charles Stanley Steavenson's previous marriage to Lena Nicholson, in Q3 1908, at Sunderland.
Lena died in Q2 1911 and CSS then married Enid Lucy Pease Robinson, in Q4 1911.
The Sanders Family Tree, on the other hand, currently has CSS's first marriage recorded incorrectly (to Elizabeth Ann Trotter) and does not mention the second (to Enid Lucy Pease Robinson).
But it has a great deal about the Steavenson family, which you may find interesting.
I have just posted messages to both tree owners, to point this out.
