Any info please on Catherine DAGON born (according to UK census) in Cork 1847. Married (though can't find a record) to John ANDERSON. First child John born Portsmouth England
1866, next 2 sons born Ireland - Robert 1868. Bernard 1870. From 1871 can find the family on UK census (in following years had several more children - including my grandmother Elizabeth b. 1881 Lambeth) But whats with the England/Ireland/England thing? Anyone know anything about possible reasons they went between the two places? I don't know where to start with Irish records.
Thanks, Jan

Full civil registration began here in 1864 so you should find the Civil birth records for Robert and Bernard in GRO records. (non-Catholic marriages were recorded from 1845)
the familysearch website has an index to Irish Records at : http://pilot.familysearch.org/recordsearch/start.html#p=2;t=searchable;c=1408347
check the Irish Resources forum for a guide to searching this and info on other Irish records.
if you find a match you can order a cert from the GRO - www.groireland.ie
Cork and Portsmouth were/are both major ports with Naval and trading activity - maybe a connection...
