Hi
I'm looking for the baptism of William Nash, born Paxford abt 1814. He has probable siblings baptised at Blockley and at Chipping Campden Baptist (parents John and Sarah).
Also, Rebecca Nash-she got married in 1823 so I'm guessing she was born abt 1800 (also in Paxford). Parents possibly William and Ann.
Any help is greatly appreciated

Pam,
As is my wont I've tried to find something from which to start searching.
Parloc, a free parish locator prog from http://www.parloc.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/parlocdl.html shows no such parish as Paxford nor does the LDS library give details of any films of its church records hence there's no Paxford batches of data at http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~hughwallis/IGIBatchNumbers/CountyGloucester_(N-Z).htm#P
There's not even a submitted entry for a W.N. at a place named Paxford so where did you find his birth details please?
Regards
Chas

Hi
Thank you for your reply.
Paxford is the place of birth given on the census returns for this family. It is in the Parish of Blockley.

Pam,
I've spent a fair time looking around. WN's parents' marriage might be your way ahead but they do not seem to have married local to Chip. Camp.
So maybe one of the two IGI extracted marriages in 1801 might be worth considering and there was a WN bap. (extracted) at Berkeley. (q.v.)
Remember that the census reply to "Where are you from?" might not be the same as the reply to "Where were you born?".
Sorry I could not help much.

Hi Pam,
The only baptism I can find at Paxford is for:
John Nash baptised 5th Feb. 1815
at Paxford
Parents John (labourer) and Sarah
(from Gloucester baptism Index 1813-1837)
Also checked the marriage index 1800- 1837 - no Rebecca Nash married in Gloucester

Thanks Chas and Sue.
The baptism for John Nash is interesting as the date ties in with William- I wonder if he was known as William to save confusing him with his father?

Pam,
Have had another look and found some more baptisms for children of John and Sarah Nash but not in Paxford. Looks like they might have moved around a bit.
Ann 1st April 1817 Berkeley parents address: Ham
Thomas 19th March 1820 Berkeley parents address: Clapton
WILLIAM 25th March 1821 Elmore parents address: Elmore
Anselm 3rd Nov. 1822 Berkeley parents address: Clapton
Hester 13 Nov. 1825 Berkeley parents address: Clapton
On each record, John's occupation is labourer but of course there may have been another John and Sarah Nash

Thanks for your help Sue, it's much appreciated.
I think the family you found may be a different one. I have 7 children for John and Sarah, all baptised either at Blockley or the later ones at Chipping Campden Baptist. The latter I found on the IGI, and the Blockley baptisms I found in the Parish registers when I visited Gloucester. William is the only one I haven't found, either because I missed it or because they took him elsewhere. Anyway, I'll probably never get to the bottom of it!
Thanks again

Contact Gloucestershire Family History Society, volunteers of the society have transcribed Gloucestershire parish registers including non-conformist births and baptisms. Chipping Campden Baptist is covered 1729-1837.

thanks JJ
Witcome seems a little too far south for any of my lot, but there might turn out to be a connection so I'll make a note of them.
