Title: Ithermine - was it Edermine or Ardamine?
Post by: Filz on Monday 30 March 09 05:10 BST (UK)
Hello listers

I have been researching a Nicholas Murphy who served in the East India Company from 1824-1842 in Bengal.  His parish of birth was written as Ithermine, Wexford.  There does not appear to be any place of that name, so I am assuming that it would be Edermine or Ardamine - any coments on which might be the more likely?

Cheers
Filz

I suppose Edermine could have been misheard by someone not that familiar with a Wexford accent.

Edermine shows up on Google maps and is located about 20km North of Wexford town near to the River Slaney and the modern Enniscorthy/Dublin road :  http://www.rootschat.com/links/05yk/

Ardamine is to the north in the County, and near to Gorey.
