I am looking for the descendent's of Catherine Skillicorn, who married James Griffin 1919 Liverpool area.
-
have to be careful here as you will be into the era of discussing possibly living people.
do you have access to www.ancestry.co.uk or www.findmypast.com - they have BMD resources where you could look for Griffin Births with mums maiden name Skillicorn post 1919 in the Liverpool area - then you could switch to marriages and chase down another generation.
-
Thank you I am just learning,
-
I had a quick look in Lancashire overall and couldnt get a birth Griffin / Skillicorn 1919 - 1939.
Are you aware of any descendants at all - or if Skillicorn was in fact her maiden name and she wasnt marrying again to Mr G ?

Hi LKL,
MJD initially posted on the Isle of Man board as that's where Catherine SKILLICORN came from (there were heaps of SKILLICORNs in the Isle of Man). See:
http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,370679
I understand that MJD has the birth certificate of John Skillicorn GRIFFIN. His birth is listed on FreeBMD as John Skilliscorn GRIFFIN, June quarter 1909, West Derby.
There are two other births in the period when mother's maiden name was recorded.
Gertrude O GRIFFIN, June quarter 1913, West Derby, mother's m.s. SKILLICORN
Peter GRIFFIN, September quarter 1915, West Derby, mother's m.s. SKILLISERN
And the marriage of the parents:
James GRIFFIN, Catherine SKILLCORN, marriage, Sept quarter 1918, West Derby
My understanding is that MJD wants to find out what happened to James GRIFFIN after that.
I would think that purchase of the marriage certificate would be a good idea. At least it should show his age (unless just recorded as full age), occupation in 1918, and father's name and occupation.
Also looking for them on the 1911 census in case they happen to be living with family members.
Regards,
JAP

Many thanks JAP - so it would seem I was looking downstream of the marriage instead up upstream !
I shall await developments with interest - many thanks for your kind intervention.

James Griffin and Catherine Skilli(e)corn were my great grandparents! Now trying to contact MJD to share information :D
-
lobster boy,
Great news!
I usually search RootsChat in case there are other relevant threads but didn't ...
Silly me.
I've now looked and of course your earlier thread was absolutely relevant to MJD's search.
I hope that the two of you can swap lots of information.
Kindest regards,
JAP
