				Hi there Ros

 GRANDMOTHER; CLARICE DAVIES B 1920 MARRIED A THOMAS FORD-HORNE
GT GRANDFATHER ; TITUS DAVIES B CIRCA 1883 POSS CARDIGAN WALES MARRIED A MARGARET JANE WALL CIRCA 1901 SHE WAS BORN MERTHYA TYDFILL GLAMORGAN
 THAT IS ABOUT ALL KNOW
THERE ARE VAROIUS BROTHERS AND SISTERS FOR BOTH GENERATIONS BUT NONE OF THESE HAVE BEEN VERIFYED SO I AM AT ALOSS WHAT TO DO
I HAVE BEEN ON FREE BMD AND 1881 CENSUS BUT IT SEEMS A VERY COMMON NAME AND THE LANGUAGE AND PLACE NAMES ARE HARDLY READABLE TO US FOREIGNERS HA AH
 I AWAIT FOR REPLY

If Titus was born c1883 – he would be about 7 or 8 in the 1891 census.

I have just put Titus Davies in the 1891 census on line; it came back with 25 matches – of which there is only one 7year old born in Cardigan.  There is also a 7 year old born in Glamorgan and an 8 year old born in Carnarthenshire.

There are 9 people with the name Margaret Wall (but none with Margaret J Wall) in the 1891 census – and none with a birth place of Merthya Tydfill - assuming she is about the same age as Titus, there are two 7 year olds and one 9 year old.

Any further clues as to which Titus or Margaret it may be?

				Hi there Ros

Have re-visited the people mentioned above on the 1891 census for Wales.

Unfortunately it has not thrown up any further proof that any of those mentioned could be your ancestors.

None of the Titus Davies found had a twin sister or siblings named Rebecca and Sarah.
Had another look for a Margaret Wall now we know her age to be nearer 11  - sorry there were non.

Up to now, I do not seem to be pressing the correct buttons; but possibly a letter to Cardigan College may bring forth some further details.

P.S. When you type in capitals, it means you are 'shouting'

I noticed one of your interest names was Sellick.
I have got some way back tracing my Grandmothers line who moved from Tonypandy to Hereford sometime in the 1920s. But am stuck going back from her Grandfather who was  John Sellick born 1839 in Colaton Raleigh in 1839 (I think). He married (probably second wife ) Anna  Balson in 1874, and they had 4 children all born in Ystradafodwg (Tonypandy between 1875 and 1880). I wonder if this John Sellick crops up on any census earlier than 1881.
On the 1881 John Sellick appears as Jass. Sellick

Dear Noel Thank you for your posting. Due to the popular Surname of Rees. Is it possible for you to answer these questions to narrow down the search?

Where was David born in 1821?

What was John Rees (David's Father) occupation, at the time of David's birth?

You also list Cardiff in Carms. I know you may have typed this in error but Cardiff is in Glamorganshire, with some records held in Monmouthshire

If you can answer the above I may be able to help you more :D

				Hi Welsh Jen,

I have a Gwladis Charlet Evans who died 19 September 1968 who married Lewis Williams who died 24 March 1935.
I have know idea when they married but their issue are:
Florence Hilda Williams b 17 September 1908 Memhyt       (should it be Merthyr) Tydfie Gelligaer ( Free BDMs) Vol 11a page 762.
Haydn died 1941 Palestine, killed in action  WW II
 Ronald b 1915
Leslie  died at the of  age 2 or 3 yrs.

 Kind Regards
 Tweedie :)

Hi Tweedie, yes the birth reference sounds like it should be Merthyr Tydfil. With regards to finding more information out on the family. I seems that the couple had their children between 1908 - 1915. The years 1905 - 1908 may be a good timeframe to start searching for Gwladis and Lewis' marriage if you still cannot find their marriage then broaden the years when searching.

There are a few Lewis Williams in the Gelligaer region in the 1901 census, but it will be quite costly to purchase credits to check all the likely candidates. You say Lewis died on 24th march 1935, do you have a rough age for Lewis?, if so you may be able to narrow down the search in the 1901 census:

Name Age Where Born Administrative County Civil Parish Occupation

Lewis Williams  1M Glamorgan Bedlinog Glamorgan Gelligaer

Lewis Williams  2 Glamorgan Gelligaer Glamorgan Gelligaer

Lewis Williams  10 Glamorgan Cardiff Glamorganshire Gelligaer

Lewis Williams  22 Glamorgan Dowlais Glamorgan Gelligaer Colliery Engine Driver

Lewis Williams  23 Glamorgan Merthyrmawr Glamorganshire Gelligaer Engine Fitter Above Ground

Lewis Williams  25 Glamorgan Gelligaer Glamorgan Gelligaer Coal Miner Hewer

Lewis Williams  49 Tir Y Capel Farm Glamorganshire Gelligaer Farmers Son

I found some entries for a Gwladys but I am unsure if these are likely candidates as I have used Gelligaer to narrow the search results:

Gwladys Evans  3M Glamorgan Bedlinog Glamorgan Gelligaer

Gwladys Evans  3 Glamorgan Bedlinog Glamorgan Gelligaer

Gwladys Evans  13 Glamorgan Gelligaer Glamorganshire Gelligaer Attending School

I would think if any the last one is the most likely candidate!

My interest is in the family name Martin, particularly from the Bridgend area (Coity, Merthyr Mawr, Coychurch), and the surname now is extremely widespread across the British Isles - had a real problem sorting out which Thomas Martin was mine in the earliest, 1837-onwards GRO registers.
However, although there is a thriving Martin family history society, I have yet to come across anyone else tracing Glamorgan Martin's, or even Welsh Martin's for that matter.
But I HAVE found the Glamorgan Family History Society extremely helpful and obliging, and getting copies of early 18th/19C Wills from Aberystwyth has been very straightforward and rewarding matter - and very reasonable indeed.

I forgot to mention at the time that about 3 weeks after I posted my cry in the dark about no other MARTIN interest for Wales, a fellow Rootschatter contacted me off list with a large amount of information on MARTIN's he was tracing, though there was not an obvious connection - not yet, anyway.
That's what's so amazing about this website...
 Keith
p.s. I learnt quite a bit about the woollen industry in the 18th C. in S.Glamorgan from the Martin wills I had copied and sent to me from Aberystwyth.  They called themselves "Tuckers", rather than "Fullers".
-
I have just found a connection between my ROSSER ancestors of London to Mitcheldean, Gloucestershire and now to Glamorganshire.

William ROSSER married Martha HANCORNE 26 Aug 1740 St. Hilary. Their eldest child, Henry ROSSER was c. 4 Oct 1741 at Llanblethian and died 1812 in London.

A HANCORNE researcher has been extremely helpful in providing HANCORNE ancestry but doesn't have much information about this ROSSER family.

I have found the following wills for children of William and Martha (HANCORNE) ROSSER -
 1. Henry ROSSER  d. 1812
 2. Richard ROSSER  d. 1847
 3. Mary ROSSER  d. 1842
 4. Martha Eleanora (ROSSER) HOARE  d. 1843
 5. Frances ROSSER  d. 1833

From the wills I know that another sister had a daughter named, Elizabeth WATKINS who married Edward BRADLEY  1811 in Cowbridge and another sister had a son named, John MILES who had a son also named John MILES and 2 daughters, one of whom was named "Ciss"/Cecil/Cecilia MILES.

Other children of William & Martha ROSSER are said to be:
 William ROSSER c. 1 Mar 1744  Llanblethian
Thomas ROSSER c. Feb 1744  Llandow
 Cecil/Cecilia ROSSER -
John ROSSER  bur. 2 Apr 1755  Llandow
 Elizabeth ROSSER  c. 21 Sep 1755  Cowbridge
 Jane ROSSER  c. 5 Jul 1757  Cowbridge
 John ROSSER  c. 20 Mar 1760  Cowbridge

So now I am seeking information about ROSSER families residing in Glamorgan.
