:-*Hi, Can anyone help me look for the Greenop Family of Langdale, Westmoreland. Sarah Greenop b.1845 Sarah married Richard Wood b.1844 Martindale, Westmoreland. They married in 1872. Regards Bullamore.

the only birth of a sarah greenop in westmorland that i can find was regd in kendall in 1850
this one is on the 1861 census with parents john and mary in langdale,westmorland.
is this her if so do you want the censuses

so unless your sarah greenop was married to richard wood and then to valentine brownlee all between 1872 and 1881
the one posted will not be yours
i will give you the census info and then see if i can find a death of richard wood and a marriage between a sarah wood and mr brownlee.

so going by this census sarahs parents were probably in lancashire in 1871 maybe that is why she was not with them in 1871. will see if i can find them in 1871.

there is a marrage between a richard wood/sarah greenop as i have already pointed out
name ; richard wood

on the 1871 census there are 5 sarah greenops living in cumberland
4 of these are in the penrith area
1 was born 1868 so not her
1 was born 1817 and is married so probably not her
1 is born 1841 unmarried with a child so possibly her.
1 is born 1854 and is a servant and is unmarried possibly her
the 2 probables were both born in renwick,cumberland
so if your sarah was born in langdale then it now looks as if she did'nt marry richard wood in 1872
but did indeed marry valentine brownlee in 1879.
if you agree that your sarah married valentine and want me to follow this sarah through the censuses then i will look for you.
i have found her parents in 1871 still in langdale and they have a son robert aged 4 born in lancashire with them which would tie in with the sighting in 1881 of valentine/sarah brownlee
with a robert greenop brother in law.
if you want the parents census entry for 1871 then i will post it here

also had a look for your richard wood in the censuses
1851 in martindale with parents joseph/ann
1861 working in penrith as a servant
1871 cannot see him
1881 in preston he is widowed
so the sarah greenop he married died between 1872-1881
there is a death of a sarah wood in 1875 in penrith her birth date is down as about 1840
so that makes it a possibility that richard wood married the sarah greenop who was the unmarried mother with child in 1871.
of couirse this is mainly an educated guess you would need certs to substantiate this
here is more info that adds creedence to this theory
the child who was with sarah greenop in 1871 is with grandparents in 1881
could be there because of death of mother
so we now have this;
the sarah greenop who married richard wood in 1872 was born in renwick cumberland abt.1840
the sarah greenop who married valentine brownlee was born in langdale in 1850

I'm a relative of Sarah Greenop born 23 March 1850 in Langdale, Westmoreland. She was the daughter of John Greenop and his wife Mary (nee Kirkby). I tried to attach a photo of Sarah but this bulletin board refused to do it. I'm descended from Sarah's older sister, Margaret Greenop.
