I haven't joined GOONS yet but will do so in the near future. I have decided to do a one name study of the surname UREN and all variants. Originally from Cornwall, UK, this name has spread far and wide.
Looking forward to hearing from anyone who is researching this name.

Hi Dave
When did your Thomas and Rebecca (JAMES) UREN emigrate to Australia? I have checked the Cornwall Census records and can't find them in the 1861 Census. You obviously don't know the parents of Thomas UREN or where he was born in Cornwall, so that makes it difficult. Do you have their marriage certificate? The witnesses usually give you a few more leads.
I thought I would also mention that the JAMES surname is also one which I am researching so maybe we can pursue that a bit later.
I will do some checking and get back to you.

Hi Cornishpasty,
We have quite a lot of information from Edward James Uren (born about 1857 Lelant, Cornwall), down our line.
But only a reference in the Queensland death index of Edward James Uren (Died 30 June 1930) to Thomas Uren and Rebecca James listed as parents.
It would be most appreciated if you could help us trace the line further back.
Interestingly, Edward James Uren not only had a mother named Rebecca James. but his second wife was Elizabeth James (born abt 1878 in Brynaman, South Wales. They were married on the 27 July 1904 in Rockhampton Qld Australia

Hi Floozy,
I've struck out with matching any of your Urens, thanks for replying, you never know.
There must have been lots of them.
If it helps you. Our Australian connection is in Charters Towers Qld.
David Fredrick Uren married Margaret Uren 21May 1919
Cheers David

Hi Dave
Your Edward James UREN was christened on 26 November 1854, Uny Lelant, Cornwall. His parents are definitely Thomas UREN and Rebecca (although her maiden name isn't given).
Thomas UREN's parents 'could be' Thomas and Jane UREN. I'm not certain of this yet.
I think it would help if you let me have as much information as possible regarding this family, where born, approximate years etc., as it will save me a lot of time searching for them in Cornwall if they were already in Australia. Do you know when they arrived in Australia?
I have a lot of Thomas URENs and they aren't easy to link up, so every little snippet of information will be helpful.
Will get back to you as soon as I can.

Hi Floozy,
Thanks for all your information. I haven't come across a Bennet Uren yet, so this family is music to my ears. I will get back to you as soon as I find anything relevant, and that may not be until well after Easter.
Thanks for your contribution.

Uren is not my direct family line.
Elizabeth Grace Reed (married to Bennet) was my GG Grandfathers sister.
dont know what happened to Bennet Uren after 1851 or their daughter Elizabeth Grace Reed Uren after 1871.
However Elizabeths 2 brothers came out to Australia John Reed My gg grandfather and Richard and families. It was them gold mining years.
Other members of Elizabeths sister 's family Constance Carvolth (nee Reed) came out to australia in later years.

Hi, I know this will not help with your family history but I must tell you that my wife and I wrote regularly to a Mrs Uren a lovely lovely lady who lived on St Michaels Mount until ill health caused her to move to Marazion. We met her almost every year for about 20 years and exchanged small gifts etc. I do not have the exact years we were friends but it was approx 1970 -1990ish she was very proud of the fact her late husband was the main player in keeping the causeway in good repair and often said he actually built part of it. Regards Tom

More names in that family
William & Bathsheba Uren of Illogan Cornwall
Looking for descendents: William b. 1807, Illogan. Bathsheba Sincock b. 1805, maybe Camborne. Children: William, Simon, Stephen, Thomas, Joseph, Philip. Stephen & Philip emigrated to California. What happened to the others?

Hello Sparksmex
It's always good to hear from any UREN descendant and to obtain details of their ancestors. Thanks for all your input. I will see what I can "connect" and when I do, I will get back to you. There are SO MANY branches out there and it's hard work trying to tie them all up but without the support of everyone like yourself, the job will never be accomplished.
Please PM me with your email address and let's stay in touch.
Regards,
CP

ltlgto .... don't know where you or your side of the family are and you didn't list following Stephen who headed to California. You still might be interested in this family foto in San Francisco 1915. Sorry for my grandmothers use of Grandpa and Grandma to describe the foto
http://sparks-genealogy.blogspot.com/2010/01/panama-pacific-international-exposition.html
Also interesting the Denny connection in Seattle. Our family lived in Seattle for many years and the women would spend winters in Seattle around the turn of the century while the men toughed it out in the Alaska gold rush

My family is located in Washington State and most have been in the Pacific NW for many years. It seems that many of the Urens migrated to the West Coast. Is that your blog? Because I was actually looking at this earlier today for the first time.
What is your grandmothers name? Mine is Marguerite Winola U'Renn. I think her father Percival was the first to use 2 NN's in the surname. Why, I don't know. My gr. gr. grandfather Andrew James Uren was in Seattle because I believe all of his children were born there.
I remember my grandmother saying that there were relatives in both California and Alaska.
Glad we have made a connection!
Kelly

Hello everyone, I have just popped home to do a few things so haven't read your messages. I'm at my son's home looking after my grandchildren as my darling, precious daughter in law has finally been given her final "hours". She has 2 weeks left to live and I just haven't been able to get back to anyone for the last 2 years but now that her time is so short, I have to be with her. I promise that I will catch up once everything is over. So please bear with me.
Thanks to you all for your input.
Take care and love one another. Life is so short and precious.
Regards
Corny
