Hello and thankyou in advance for listening to me :P
As a young child, I recall my mother with great pride making reference to the Beaumont name being of Norman origin and being represented on the Bayeaux tapestry - I simply did not understand how proud my mother was for her family and her name, something that I now identify with but I am no longer able to share with her. The quest I have set myself (albeit I accept is rather futile and subjective), is to conclude within reasonable doubt I am descended from the Norman Beaumonts as depicted on the Bayeaux tapestry.
I am a 2nd Great Grandson of Abraham Beaumont (b. 26 Mar 1846) who married Hannah Revell (b. 12 Dec 1846) in Huddersfield, Yorkshire on 27 Feb 1871.
Research carried out by Diana Beaumont (as discussed in her book The Beaumonts of Longley) has identified that my Abraham is descended from the long line of Beaumonts from the Kirkburton Parish, of which she has traced back to Abraham Beaumont who married Anne Roebuck on 9 Nov 1664 in Kirkburton, Yorkshire.
There are a number of IGI records for Abraham Beaumont's born in Kirkburton Parish circa 1635-1645 (assuming that Abraham was married in his 20's), but the information is broken up and I have not been able to get much of a trace going.
I guess what I am seeking: is anybody aware of any research which has been done into the Beaumont families of the Kirkburton Parish in the 1600's, does anybody have any additional information about Abraham Beaumont b. circa 1640 in Kirkburton Parish or does anybody have a suggestion on where I can go from here to further my quest for information.
I am sure that there is a lot more I could do for myself if I didn't happen to live in Australia.
Any and all assistance/advice would be appreciated.
Thankyou and best regards,
Rob

I've got Kirkburton PR transcripts but thay only start at 1686. I got them from HDFHS but they're the earliest they have transcribed. As I remember the handwriting on the earlier PRs is quite difficult to read...the only thing I can think that you can do in Australia would be to find your nearest LDS Family History Centre and order the film for Kirkburton if it exists.
I think you're going to struggle to prove it unequivocally though but good luck!

Contact Lenny Beaumont.
You'll find him on the web and does a one name study of Beaumont's of Yorkshire and formost on them! With a private data base of a 100'000 Beaumont's. Kirkburton is one of his main areas along with Almondbury.
His email address is on the web but I can't put it on this website.
Also ancestry.co.uk (Gt Britain)or .com (world) has the Kirkburton parish transciptions online 1557 to 1650 ish online.
Having said all this as reasonable doubt on these old parish registers 15-1600s lets say many are missing and others unreadable. You can find more proof in Wills at Borthwick institute York city ~ Yorkshire Wills index if they made one.

Try consulting "The Parish Registers of Kirkburton, Co York" edited by Frances Anne Collins.
Volume 1 (1887) covers, roughly, 1540 to 1640 and is available at
http://www.archive.org/details/parishregisterso01kirk
Volume 2 (1902) covers, roughly, 1640 to 1740; but you'll have to track down a printed copy at a library as there is no on-line version.

Yes, I recommend those books too. I ordered copies from the British Library, but I know that's probably not an option from Oz.
The lady also tried to work out the family relationships but never completed the job. She was working alphabetically. I was in luck with Booth so I'm thinking you'll be ok with Beaumont.
Quite a few of her notes etc. are in the archives in Leeds. I was lucky enough to find a newpaper clipping of a death notice among them for my gg grandmother from 1889.
Just checked - not a single Beaumont on my tree.
Good luck

There are transcriptions of Kirkburton in book form also all Almondbury(Holmfirth north)/Kirkburton(Holmfirth south)/Kirkheaton/Thornhill(flockton/Emily) and Huddersfield parish registers. from mid 1500's to 20th century in most Libraries. I would think Austraila will have them. Maybe contacting the LDS for advice on in Aussy- may help.

Thankyou all for your replies.
Off I go to do some more reading :)

Hi
Just noticed this board.
A few years ago I traced the Whitley Beaumont's back to the early days and I then traced one side to the Queen mother and so on to the Queen and I drew a tree with the relevant data.
They original came over at about the time of the conquest but they got the lands from the De Lacy's so you cannot say that they came over with the conquest but there was also another Beaumont family that came over at the same time but they settled in Lancashire.
I also wrote a it down and it was on the Kirkheaton website.

Hi Brian
I don't seem to have the rights to PM, but my email is ********************* thanks
Just post one more time and you'll be able to PM after you have 2 posts
As already said by another member ! its best not to post you email on public boards or you could get spam or scam mail. ie :- receiving spoof false email wanting your banking passwords etc. and identity theft like driving licence number etc (Strongly advise remove or delete your email address)

I noticed you have a Mills in your listings. Are you by any chance from the London group? Lookin2

Lookin2 about the Mills.
Not that I am aware of, mine came from the north of Nottinghamshire but I haven't been able to get too far back with them.
A branch of the Ellins family move to London from Gloucestershire.

Mine, I believe, are from Middlesex area but very difficult to track. They have "Battey" (spelling?) in the tree somewhere and a "Pickett" line but no Ellins. DNA shows quite a few Scots and Irish but no serious connection yet. Thank you for your response. Lookin2

Hi, I have just come across your post while researching. I am also from the same line of Beaumont's that you are and was wondering how your search went in regards to the Bayfeux Tapestry?
Thanks,
Emily
