Title: Parents of Richard Mitchener b 1847? Can you help?
Post by: 2ron2 on Wednesday 25 March 09 13:27 GMT (UK)
Good morning from Canada. My great-great grandfather was Richard Mitchener and he was born in 1847 in Andover, Hampshire England. He married Sarah Collins approx June of 1877 in Marleybone. My great grandfather (their son), George Richard Deakin was born in 1878. Richard, his wife Sarah and son George appear on the 1881 census living in London where Richard is listed as a police constable. The 1911 census shows a Richard Mitchener age 63 living in Westburne Sussex, birth date would be 1848 which could be my Richard. Can anyone help me determining who Richard's parents were and anything about the family? Any and all information is greatly appreciated.

It's a pleasure - I can't find John in the 1841 census- there are some but none that you could be sure of so I left it.
The marriage certificate would show John's father if ever you wanted to continue further back.
Best wishes

Thank you. Do you know of any source regarding his service in the police force? I'm wondering if there would be service records or staff pictures etc which might be accessible.

Hi 2ron2,

Yes, I am a Mitchener descendant. My grandmother was a Mitchener and I've been researching all branches of the family for quite a while now. Can we take this discussion off the RootsChat page? I have trees that I can send you.
Smiles,
Diz
