Title: 1871 Census look up - William and Mary Ann Smith in Bimrmingham
Post by: Toz on Tuesday 24 March 09 21:46 GMT (UK)
Could anyone help me to find William and his wife Mary Ann on the 1871 census for Birmingham please? They were both born abt 1850. William born in New Radford, Nottingham and Mary Ann from Ladywood, Birmingham. On later records it looks like William was some sort of engineer, probably with the railways. They may have their baby Joseph living with them.
Many thanks and kind regards
Toz

Annette - Sorry - me again. Have just noticed Monk being one of your surname interests. My mother was a Monk who's grandfather moved to East London (and eventually Lincs) from Clavering, Essex in the late c19. I have got back to the c18 Essex with the Clavering Monks so far. Any connections do you think? Let me know if you would like any geneal info.

Hi - Good to hear from you. My gt grandfather was Allen Monk b.1876, son of Daniel Monk b.1848 and Rachel Piggott b.1852, all from Clavering although Allen moved up to Lincolnshire. The earliest Monk ancestor I could find was John Monk from Langley - I can't get further back than him online. Will have to go down to Essex Record Office to track back further. Kind Regards Toz
