I am completely stuck with Martha STEDEN, born Shabbington ~1838 (from Census)
The name is as written on her marriage certificate (to Thomas Lovell) but Steden seems a rare name.
Are there any other Stedens anybody is aware of.

I have looked at the 1851 census and although there are no Steden recorded, there are in fact some Steeden. What was Marthas fathers name and occ? (from the marriage cert)

Hi Ruth
Thats a good lead, I haven't seen the 1851 census.
I made a mistake, I just checked - the Martha Steden name comes from the birth cert of their child - 'Lavinia Shrimpton Lovell' (not the marriage cert, which I have not found yet). So no info yet on fathers name. Martha was born in 1838 - ~13 yrs in 1851 census.

I found Martha in the 1841 census Shabbington (as Steeden as you discovered)
Only problem - is no father at home
But, bit of luck - with dates from census found Marthas marraige cert on BDM - hurry up postman !

Hello Steve
My husband is a Steeden and I have a very large tree of the family.
Originally from Northamptonshire they moved to Buckinghamshire (Tingewick) and Oxfordshire.
From there to London, Kent, Surrey and Lancashire.
If I can assist I will.
Best wishes
Lorraine
