Hello! I am not sure how I found this site, but I am looking for some of my family that is from England, specifically the Yorkshire area. I am not real familiar with England and where are the places are, so please bear with me if I seem a little slow or just plain dumb!! I have searched back through the mid 1500's and found that my family is from England. Maybe that explains why I drink a lot of tea!! Anyway, I am just looking for anyone with information and maybe some pictures of the area today. Any and all help is appreciated. I am about 8 hours behind your time so I may be a little slow to respond at times. Thank you for any and all of the help you can provide!!

Hi Melanie,
Welcome to Rootschat ..... a word of warning its very addictive ;D
Everyone on here is on different time zones, so we all respond at different times. No one on here will think you are slow or just plain dumb, and we were all new once. ;D so we know what it is like to be a newcomer. :)
Wish you luck in your search.
Cheers
KHP :)
PS. Reading the help pages in How to Use Rootschat will help you with the site.

Hello Melanie,
Welcome to RootsChat!
The very best thing you can do is to post:
a) details of what information (with dates and from what sources) you already have
and
b) where you ancestors were and when
and
c) what you now need to find out.
Plenty of RootsChatters will be only too keen to help you.
All the very best!!
Regards,
JAP

Hi Melanie, welcome to Rootschat
Yes, it is very addictive, and the people on this site are all incredibly helpful - and good fun as well (see Totally Off Topic if you want a laugh!)
I've had a huge amount of help when I've got stuck in my search. I, too, have family from Yorkshire - specifically from the Middlesbrough and Hartlepool/Stockton areas, which probably won't mean much to you. But if you stick with it, I'm sure you'll find out all sorts of interesting stuff about your family's past.

Hi Melanie
Welcome to rootschat :)
Two sites that I have found really helpful are genuki where you can find information about the towns and parishes of Yorkshire. http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/eng/YKS/ There are links to maps of the various areas which will help you find very small settlements etc.
The other site for pictures today is geograph uk. http://www.geograph.org.uk/ You can input the name of place in the search box and often find many pictures of the area where your family lived.
Hope this helps

Hi Melanie,
I have to say I am well impressed that you have traced your family to the mid 1500's .. I'm sure a lot of people on here can benefit from your expertise also .. !
We don't all drink tea in England, says me who is on her second cup of coffee in Yorkshire .. !
Without risk of repeating everyones good advice, there are a lot of friendly people with local knowledge so if you do need anything don't hesitate to ask .. !
Good luck, :)
Pels.

Is that a chocolate biscuit with the coffee ;D
KHP

not all that crazy about chocolate unless it is a candy bar with peanuts, peanut butter or something like that mixed with it. But, a little cream and sugar in the coffe would be nice!!! Is a biscuit like a cookie??
-
Its the one and same ;D
-
well, in that case, I may take a chocolate chip cookie!! You guys are really nice and seem very helpful already. I will write down what I do have and then I will post it so I can get a little more information. It really is nice seeing where you come from. I know that my mother's side of the family is German. How far back, that I do not know. I was shocked to see that our family went back this far before they came to the United States (or the new land at that time). I may just have to take it one side of the family at a time!!

Hello Melanie and a warm welcome from me also. You will get incredible help on RootsChat from very friendly people, so just sort out the questions you want to ask and start posting. I live in Lancashire, right on the border with West Yorkshire, with a camera always at the ready and just on my second cup of coffee :D

Hello Melanie,
This is my first post on this site also. I have been looking for my family since 04. I have found quite a few in Scotland. My G Grandmother had an extensive post card collection. It is just like being with my great
aunts and grandmother when I read them.
I am trying to find my great aunt and her family. They are from Bradford they had a
confectioner shop in there home at 554 Manchester Rd. there name was Edward and Agnes Driver. Daughters Agnes Isabel,Nellie Louisa,Laura Annie and Ethel Agnes she worked for the Wilson and Sons store on Market St. downtown. I am trying to find out where they are buried. They were methodist and lived at the 554 Manchester address at
least until after my Great grandmother died in
June 1912 and the 1911 census. Any help would be appriciated. I don't know where to look next.
Thanks Gala Girl
