Have been trying to view City Ark online registers but nothing coming up. Anyne else having trouble or is it just me?
-
Hi
The archives are waiting for a server upgrade as the storage is full. i did email them last week and they explained they were hoping for a resolution soon.
I find it works but off peak times - in the middle of the night etc
Fingers crossed for normal service soon- as its a brilliant resource
Sue
PS I managed to get on it for a brief time this morning and they have put loads more info on
-
Hi Sue,
Thanks for letting me know. Will set my alarm for 2am or perhaps wait until they have sorted out the problem.

I'd wondered if it was me too!! Brilliant resource, can't wait to see what they have added. :o

Oooh, what are the new additions Sue ???

Thats the worst of it - I cannot remember- but the list of parishes had got a lot longer I know that.
I have been working through the registers extracting all the Mannering(s) entries and there are some parishes I have never seen before.
Its now before 6am Uk time but it will not let me on this morning to check. If I can get a window of time I will make a list of parishes.
I think this extra information is what has overloaded the server - so when a couple of people get on the site there is nothing left for the search - if you see what I mean.
I know Medway cityark have won another lottery grant so hopefully they will get a new or upgrated server soon.
Hope to make a list soon

The Friends of Cityark have this message on their website
"You may be experiencing problems with the CityArk website. We are aware that there is a problem, which has been caused by CityArk reaching its storage capacity. We are awaiting a server upgrade and apologise for any inconvenience."
I emailed Cityark itself a week or so ago and they advised normal service would be resumed asap. I believe they have got another heritage lottery grant so I do not think the service is at risk- its probably taking time for the budget to come through to upgrade the server. It is nearly the end of the financial year in the Uk maybe they have to wait until April for new funding.
Like you - I rely on this wonderful service and miss it dreadfully.
Fingers crossed it will be back very soon

Thanks for this thread, thought it was just me being stupid & not using it properly!
Have never used Citiark before but have family to trace in Medway so am on the edge of my seat awaiting it's return.

Honestly Jovi75, I think you will find it well worth the wait. Its simple to use and so very interesting to see your ancestor's details straight from the book so to speak. Great fun.
-
Thanks Royd,
I really can't wait now to piece all my bits together properly. If anyone notices it's return could they please note it on the thread!
Cheers

How do you search on the site. I have tried a few times, and got lost :(
mary

Hi Mary
You don't search as such but view each page of each register separately ie. the parish registers aren't indexed on the site. You enter via the "parish registers online" link on the left of the page and then select the parish and then select the particular register that you wish to view which gives you a whole list of images which you need to view separately.
http://www.familysearch.org is incomplete but can often be used to locate events and there is a partial index of marriages http://homepages.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~fleming/cityark.htm
Hope this helps but if you get stuck just shout and somebody will help you look.

I wish EVERYWHERE had a site like this - it's such fun to look at. :D
Hi Weemary, I'll have a go for you if you like, but it's fun to scroll through the pages and then EUREKA there's the name you're looking for..
-
..........yeah until it throws up a spanner in your tree-hunting works as it has mine, ha, ha! Genealogy is never dull eh?

thanks for all the replies - yes it is fun finding that elsuive ancestor - took me 10 years to loacte a marriage cert as one of my ancestors was wrongly names on a death cert.
The problem I have is my ancestor was born Gillingham according to the 1851 census.
The 1861/1871 census he doesn't know where he was born.
I will post on a seperate thread to see if anyone can suggest where I can search next
