David Brown married Grizzell Beveridge at Dalgety on22nd,June,1793. But which David? She had a choice of two. David 1, born10Oct.1771 to James Brown/Janet Moor or David 2, born 25 Apl.1775 to John Brown/Jean?. Can anyone tell me how to tell which one. Thanks.

Hi Falcon
Welcome to Rootschat :)
I've just checked the IGI on www.familysearch.org to see if they might have used the traditional naming pattern - i.e.
First son - after father's father
Second son - after mother's father
Third son - after father
First daughter - after mother's mother
Second daughter - after father's daughter
Third daughter - after mother
etc. ......
It wasn't always followed but it is a good indicator.
What I've found is largely from patron submitted records which would need to be checked against the Scotlands People site www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk
1794 - James
1797 - Janet
1802 - Margaret
1802 - Mary (also submitted 1805)
1805 - Helen
1808 - Archibald
1813 - Agnes ( extracted)
(all Dalgetty)
This suggests that the James Brown/Janet Moor might be the most likely parents but you'd need to do some checking - did the other David marry/die......... If he married, hat were his children called. Does the marriage record give any other information. Are they on the 1841 census. Is there a monumental inscription(MI).
Do you have the names of Grizzel's parents?

Hi Gadget ,
thanks for the first reply to my first ever post! I agree that David ,1771, is the most likely candidate. After fuether checks-1841 census- Iwill communicate further. Yes I do know Grizzells parents. They could well be Alexander Beveridge/Margaret Livingstone but not yet 100% convinced of that.
