Does anyone know how I would get help with Non Conformist records in Loddiswell and the
surrounding areas? My ancestors were the Kennards of Loddiswell, they were primarily blacksmiths and non conformists.
there don't seem to be any records on the IGI. Any suggestions?
Thank you for any help and advice given

Would the appropriate local Library be able to tell you which non-conformist regs there might be and where they are held?

Thank you Charlotte, I will check that now. ;D

At the dates you're talking about, the only marriages that were recognised as legal had to take place in a Church of England Church- normally the parish church. Non Conformist marriages were not recognised until 1837, and the same applies to baptisms (although non conformists did baptise children you will often find that the children were also baptised in the Parish Church as well.)
I don't think the same applied to non conformist burials as you will find early burial grounds usually around the chapel or nearby.

There are many nonconfromist baptism records around.
In the SW Wesleyan Methodists seem to have been strong- another area where there seems an abundance of nonconformist chapels and records is WRY and Lancs.

Charlotte,
The local library couldn't help but have passed my query to the Devon Records office who they believe do hold some records.
Thank you for all your advice

joolesbarr,
That sounds good- you should get an authoritative answer.
Keep us posted.
