Hello All,
Marjory died 19 October 1985 and was cremated at Purewa.
Hoping some one can look up her death notice, so I can be sure who her parents and/or siblings were.
Thank you
Jean
PS Thought Bannatyne was an unusual name - there are lots in NZ
-
I wonder if it could be
married 1905/3508 Marjory Robertson & George Lang Bannatyne
http://bdmhistoricalrecords.identityservices.govt.nz/Search/Search.aspx?Path=%2fqueryEntry.m%3ftype%3dmarriages
Or do you have the surname as a married name ???

Hi Jean & Althea
Marjory was aged 77 years at the time of her death ... so born circa 1908. If she was NZ-born, then her birth (hopefully with parents names included), might possibly be found in the online historical indexes ??

Hi Althea
( :-[ ) Yep, this Historial search facility is beaut (now that we've all got the hang of it ... and worked out the peculiarities). BUT ... I'll be sticking with my Marriages CD - there is no way I can work out some of the oddities that appear in the online (Historical) Marriages ! :D
Lu
PS : Jean ... give a yell if you still need the death notice look-up.
-
Hello Althea and Lu,
Yes, Marjory Bannatyne is the daughter of Marjory Robertson and George Lang Bannatyne.
This Marjory never married and died 19 Oct 1985.
In the Historical records on line there is a brother William Gibson Bannatyne born 18 Sept 1906, but I can not find him anywhere else.
I was hoping a death notice would say something like "loved sister of William, (name a country), or "loved aunt of x and y" and I would know where to start looking, or have new names to find.
He is not in the Commonwealth War Graves site.
So, yes please, I would like a death notice look up in the Auckland paper(s).

William was born 18/9/1906
was attending Muritai Eastbourne School May 1912
then left Dec 1912
Destination Akatarawa

Hi Jean & Althea
Jean ... if you have a look on your Marriages CD, you'll find a "second" marriage for a "George Lang ..." (1927). Directly under that listing is a (1904) marriage for a James Gibson BANNATYNE ?? (Perhaps related to George ?)
Will do the death notice (for Marjory) look-up (next few days) ... hopefully it contains some helpful info.
Would be nice to find out what happened to William Gibson B. also ? I wonder if he died young? (There's no marriage listing). (Akatarawa is part of Upper Hutt - in Wellington region).

Hello Lu and Althea,
You have both been very busy.
Any Bannatyne with Gibson/William/Lang as a forename will belong to my Bannatyne family.
I look forward to the death notice.

Hi Jean
Unfortunately there were no death / funeral notices, published for Marjory BANNATYNE, in the Auckland newspapers. :(
[I checked both the "New Zealand Herald" and "Auckland Star" searching 5 days either side of the date of death.]
Perhaps she was the "last" of her family and there was nobody to place a notice ? [The funeral director named on the Purewa (cremation) record, may be able to give you details of her next of kin ?]

Hello Bron,
Thank you for your interest.
The Marjory I am researching was born and died in New Zealand. Her grandfather, William Lang Bannatyne was born in Dumbartonshire, and married Mary Gibson in Tasmania.
William and Mary came to Dunedin, NZ, and both are buried there.
I was trying to tie up loose ends on this particular Bannatyne family in NZ, as it seems there are very few descendants.
Regards,
Jean
PS It is the Gibson family I am following.
PPS. I am in contact with a Bannatyne researcher in Australia who has William Lang Bannatyne remotely in her tree. Let me know if you want any more details

Hello Sally,
William Gibson Bannatyne is a 2nd cousin once removed of mine.
My grandmother Mary Gibson, from Yarrawonga, Victoria, stayed with his grandmother, Mary Gibson Bannatyne in Dunedin, NZ, in 1907, when she came to NZ to be married. Mary Gibson Bannatyne was my grandmother's aunt.
Mary Gibson married William Bannatyne in 1858 in Launceston, Tasmania. Later they moved to Dunedin.
Hope you can follow all that.
Regards
Jean
I am now off to Trove to see what I can find about William G Bannatyne
-
Hi Jean,
I love TROVE. did you find the engagement notice?
The Argus Melbourne.. 1938 page 29.
I did find something very interesting in Queenie Elizabeth WEBLEY nee WIER's death notices.
1 of them has a child listed and named Lesley. I did not know of him.
I can see a Leslie Ernest WEBLEY listed in the Electoral rolls at the same home as his parents.
I also have burial details for William Gibson and Gladys.
Both are at Springvale Botanical Gardens Location - Garden of no distant place (GNDP)
days William died 1 Dec and cremated 3 Dec 1985
and Gladys, same location died 23 Jan and cremated 25 Jan 2002.
Do you know much on Queenie Elizabeth's siblings?
cheers
Sally.
-
Hello Sally,
Yes, have found the engagement notice and also a birth notice for a daughter.
I am not following the Webley/Weir side so can not help you there.
Thank you for the death/cremation details for the Bannatynes.
Are you the Sally Shine that is remotely related to my husband's relations - John Andrew Hickey and Selina Robinson? If so, that is now twice we are vaguely related - perhaps we should try for a third that is definite ;D
Regards
Jean
