I would be most grateful if somebody could check the Holywell parish records for the baptism of Robert DAVIES, from around 1785-1800. The 1841 census gives his approx age as 45, suggesting he was born 1796 +/- 5 yrs. He lived in Holywell from at least 1828, and was quite possibly born there.
Many thanks

I have the Holywell Parish Registers(Baptisms) at home here from 1771-1795 as transcribed by Clwyd FHS.There is only one Baptism of a Robert Davies between 1790 and 1793 and this is one on the 20th of January 1793 to Parents given as Robert and Elizabeth Davies.

This is certainly a very strong possibility. What I think is his death certificate (I think he died in 1867) suggests he was born around 1794, so you could well have hit the nail on the head! Unfortunately, I'm struggling to find other census records with him on it, which might just confirm his year of birth, but I think you have it.
Thanks for your time and effort, William. Much appreciated.

I wonder whether wrjones or anyone else can help. I am looking for the family of my great ggmother, Sarah Elizabeth Davies. The 1871 Census for Garston (Liverpool) gives her birth as 1842 at Holywell, Flint. Other info suggests she had a sister, Hannah (b. 1846), a brother Peter (b.1847) and possibly another brother Robert O. Hannah's birthplace in the 1871 Garston Census is given as "Lleaysford?, N. Wales" (The handwriting is difficult to read. A place sounding something like "Lleaysford?" should presumably be near Holywell.
Other visitors to Sarah Elizabeth were born in Whitford, Mostyn, which I think is 5 miles from Holywell - which might also be a clue for the location of her parents in 1841 and/or 1851.
Many thanks

The marriage of John Owens and Sarah Elizabeth Davies at Liverpool St Nicholas on 16/12/1866 states that Sarah Elizabeth's father was a Peter Davies given as a Shoemaker.

Dear William
That's wonderful. That fits. As a name, Peter has been commonly used in the Owens family, including (apparently) this Peter's son.
I will now check the 1841 and 1851 for Holywell, assuming these returns are not missing.
Any idea please on "Lleaysford?", Hannah's birthplace in the 1871 Garston Census.
Many thanks

... Further. William. I think "Lleaysford?" is actually Whitford, near Mostyn, Flint. So, please cross that one off.
Thanks again
