Hi Claude
Have you got the family on the 1911 census - just wondering what Harry's place of birth is listed as there. I think they are in the Islington district of London and playing around with the index appears to give Northamptonshire as his birthplace http://www.1911census.co.uk/
There is this possibility ..............
1891 - Bunker's Hill, Higham Ferrers, Northamptonshire
George COX head mar 36 ag lab b.Warmington Northants
Sarah wife A wife 36 b.Warmington
John son 12 b.Dutton
George son 10 b.Elton
Harry son 9 b.Warmington
Charles son 5 b.Newton

Thanks so much for your help. Have not found him on any census yet.
All I know like I said is that Harry grew up in Margate.
I know that Harry died around 1938 at same address.
Will keep searching. Any advise or help would be greatly appreciated.
Marriage certificate for Harry and Beatrice only tells me his father was George and a Carter by trade.

Hi
Have you seen this birth cert?
Births Mar 1884

Thanks wendy, did see that but on his marriage certificate date of marriage is 19th May, 1907. His age is stated as 25. So 1884 birth seems a bit out.
Cheers, Cheryl

Hi Cheryl
How sure can you be that Harry grew up in Margate and/or that he was born in Margate or Canterbury? Have you looked at the 1911 census http://www.1911census.co.uk/ - you will need to purchase credits to see the actual details but, as I said, (and assuming I have the correct family) it says Harry COX age 29 in the Islington district of London and I went through all the counties and he doesn't show up until I entered born "Northamptonshire" and then I tried born "Warmington" like the 1891 census entry above and up he pops ;)
Try using the full person search for Gladys COX born Margate and up pops Gladys Margaret COX in Islington born Margate. The try COX in Islington with (other member of household) Gladys Margaret COX and you will see Beatrice 30, Harry 29, Henry George 1. Then search for Harry COX age 29 in Islington born Kent - he doesn't appear and he won't appear until you type in born Northamptonshire and/or Warmington ;)
In the 1901 census his father appears to be a carter too ...............

Thank you so much. You are a true gem.
I wasnt sure where Harry grew up but assumed it was around margate.
Beatrices family lived at 44 st johns rd for many years. I now assume that Beatrice and Harry took over the residence in later years.
In the 1930''s Kelly Direcotry 44 St Johns Road, Harry Cox, Lodging House.
It was demolished in the early 1960s.
Gladys Margaret Cox is my grandmother. She had 4 siblings - Harry Jnr 1906, Maud - 1907, Phylis 1910 and Doreen - 1924.
On my Grans Marriage certificate of March 29, 1928. It lists her as living at 164 St Johns Street, Clarkenwell. District of Pimlico.
I had been told that Harry may have been born in Staplehurst is that the same area as Northhamptonshire?
Again thank you heaps, regards cheryl
-
Hi Cheryl
No, Staplehurst is nowhere near Nothamptonshire. Staplehurst is in Kent - Northamptonshire is another county altogether - Northants (short for Nothamptonshire) on the following map http://www.itraveluk.co.uk/maps/england/ and they were in the county of London in 1911.

My Nash family originated from Herefordshire I'm afraid. It is a fairly common name. I haven't found any in Wiltshire

Hi Casaguidi, long time no chat. Im still trying to figure out these cox''s. Have had no luck finding Sarah Ann''s last name.
Where is best to post birth look-up of harry - would his birth cert give mothers maiden name.
Sorry to be a nuisance.
regards claude
-
Hi
A child's birth certificate will give his mother's maiden name.
In 1881 George and Sarah Ann Cox are in Elton, Huntingdonshire (in Oundle registration district), both aged 26 and with a 10-month-old son George William b Elton: RG11/1588/64/14. Transcriptions of the 1881 census can be seen for free on www.familysearch.org.
Have you, therefore, ruled out this possible marriage in the same registration district a couple of years earlier (from www.freebmd.org.uk)?
Dec qtr 1877
George COX
Sarah Ann EDWARDS
on the same page, Oundle 3b 457.

FreeBMD also shows up this likely birth registration for Harry:
Jun qtr 1882
Harry COX
Oundle 3b 235
-
Hi avm, thanks for that info. Have got family now in 1881 census.
Have also found in 1891 census son of George and Sarah - John born 1878.
Found this entry in 1881 census;
John Cox Head 51 b - warmington Northhamptonshire
Mary Hannah Cox Wife 50 b - lutton, Northhamptonshire
John Thomas Cox Son 16 b - lutton, Huntingdon
Joseph G Oliver Nephew 15 b - lutton, Huntingdon
John Edward Cox Grandson - 2 - b - lutton, Northamptonshire.
Can I assume that John & Mary are George b1855 parents and that they were minding John on the night? many thanks again - cheryl

Can I assume that John & Mary are George b1855 parents and that they were minding John on the night?
Yes, I would say that looks a very good possibility as they appear to have had a son George born at about the right time in the right area ..........
