Hi!
Could one of you kind souls please help? I am looking for the marriage of ROBERT KIDD b 1900 Norwich to PRUDENCE b 1902. No other info I am afraid!
I have failed miserably and would appreciate a little help..
Cheers
Robin

any idea when their 1st child was born ?
-
Hi
Those birthdates are late enough that a marriage might not yet have been transcribed on FreeBMD. Have you looked through the full GRO index?
I agree with Laird of Lynn that if you have details about any children of theirs (though please don't name anybody still living) it might well help in the search.
Anna :)

Also, do you have death dates for Robert and/or Prudence? Every little helps.

Ah ha that would be why I struggled on BMD! If they married around 20 ish then the 1st child would have been born around 1920 22 ish
Thanks

Robert died dec 21st 1959 is buried at Briston. Prudence died 29 April 1981 buried at Holt

Is there a child of theirs (not still living) whose name & approx birthdate/place you know? The birth registration index will give mother's maiden name, which would help in finding the marriage and Prudence's origins.

I will have to pop over to the graveyard where I know one of the eldest sons is buried which will help things.
Thank you so much

No, that's her death registration place!
-
I can get back from Robert ok census etc but its this Prudence issue which is bugging me.
Ok then she could have come from Wis after all!
-
Wisbech could be a useful clue. The only Prudence born in Norfolk in the correct quarter was this one:
Prudence Olive DAVIS Sep qtr 1902 Freebridge Lynn 4b 302
(I think Freebridge Lynn borders on Wisbech registration district?)

Did as you suggested re children and think I have found her!! found one of childrens births which gives maiden name of mother( Waterfield) then searched 1911 census for Prudence, no luck but found Prudy Waterfield born right year, family in Horse dealing which fits as Roberts family on 1901 census were Hawkers which fits family storys also some of her siblings have weird names which were passed on to her and Roberts children.
Thanks a lot without the tips would not have got this far and have been puzzling over this for months
;D ;D ;D ;D

Brilliant!
I see no fewer than 9 Kidd/Waterfield births registered 1923-1934, all in Erpingham district.

You mention hawkers & horse dealers and unusual names. Were they travellers/Roma? If so they may not have had an official marriage but instead followed traditional nuptial rites in their community.

There were no Kidd /Waterfield marriages between 1920 and 1940 - I've looked ::)
-
So far Prudy seems to fit with the family history. The weird christian name of her sibling totally fits too I have always wondered where such an unusual name came from. And the area is totally correct too
Yes the family are gypsies, are there any marriages for any Kidds?
-
There were 9 children from the marrige of Pru and Robert
Thanks Anna

Lucky break too, census 1911 shows Prudys aunt on her mothers side visiting too so another lead to follow!!
