I was wondering whether anyone could help us shed some light on the family of Reservoy Smith who 'married' (or possibly never did) Tom (Thomas) Fletcher.
We see her in the 1901 census as Rose Fletcher living with her daughter Annie (actually Damerus which can be spelt a multitude of ways) and her son in law Harry Strickland (actually Hull but thats another very long story)
Reservey died in Worcester in 1922 aged 102.
Her mother also died in Worcester 1908 aged 109. Her mother was Ann (maiden name probably Byles) who was we believe married to John (possibly Shadrack) Smith, one of the sons of Wisdom (b.1786) Smith and Elizabeth Gentle.
We have Damerus's birth certificate which proves her parentage as Revervoy nee Smith and Thomas Fletcher. Other than this and the birth records of two other siblings we have no record of Thomas Fletcher. We can't find him in any census and Reservoy proves hard to track as well.
Reservey had a brother called Nathan and we believe he married a member of the Fletcher family also. However we are slightly unsure of this. Tom Fletcher is described as a brazier tinman on all documents.
Any ideas would be hugely appreciated :D

I have a birth certificate of a Plato Buckland b 1839 Barrowden Uppingham Counties of Rutland & Northampton
the parents are stated as Damaris Buckland nee Fletcher
and Thomas Buckland ( Tinman) both signed with their mark X
could this be anything to do with your family ?
I would be interested to know if anything you can help with this couple.........

Hi Tiggi,
Because we have as yet been unable to trace hide nor hair of Thomas Fletcher I haven't been able to link this family in. I suspect they will have something to do with them; perhaps Damaris is Thomas's elder sister. It would certainly be a possibility. I've done a quick search and found Plato c. 3 nov 1839, Edmund c 27 Sept 1935 and Amadine c 16 Oct 1831. Does this tie in with you?

I only have that one cerificate and because I didn't think it was my family haven;t really looked for them sorry

Unfortunately we have no record of Tom's birth or birth place. His wife Reservoy was born around 1820. The first child we have a record of is John christened 1852 in Gloucestershire. Damerus was born 1861 in Alcester.

Now I was also going to say reason I am interested in this family of yours.... Fletcher & Smith
Is because I have in my tree a Tennah Buckland married in 1822 to John Fletcher in Buckinghamshire I know nothing about them as a couple or their children etc
Also I am linked to the Smith side very much so .......
Tennah father was Edward Buckland & mother Diana Smith
but also you talk about John (shadrack ) Smith I think his son Wisdom Smith married in 1872 Bromsgrove to Edith Buckland and I have marriage certificate for them which lists father as John Smith "Hawker"
I am pretty certain its him
So now you can understand my interest as this is all my family

That Wisdom (married to Edith) we believe is Reservoy's brother so thats good. Reservoy and Tom are my ggg grandparents.

Edith Bukcland was my Grt Aunt my Grt Grandfather was her brother Nelson Buckland the lady in my photo is Betsy Smith daughter of James Smith who I wondered is maybe a brother to John Smith ? or if not a cousin

Good idea, I could try and find it but I guess I'd have to go to Bucks to look at the films. Hopefully it'll have father's name, I find it so annoying that some of the parish records prior to 1837 didn't have fathers!!!

We have Tenant and Keziah in our tree, Edith and Nelson and the others. Apparently they're all supposed to have gone to USA... is that right?

(p.58) The mention of this John Smith recalls his namesake John, son of Wisdom and Elizabeth, whose wife Nanny died at Worcester in 1908 ' aged 108,' and a whole bevy of ' centenarians ' connected with this couple. Nanny was by birth a Byles ; and she is commonly reputed to have been, and probably was, sister to Charlotte Byles who married another of Wisdom's sons, Billy Smith of Buckingham, though Charlotte herself on one occasion denied relationship. Charlotte was daughter of a gorgio named William Byles and Sarah, daughter of Priscilla Smith : and for Charlotte, Priscilla and Nanny's oldest daughter Rizavoi, wife of Tom Fletcher, centenarianism is also claimed. About Priscilla, who is reputed to have lived to the age of 105, I have no evidence to offer. Rizavoi was baptized at Wigginton on September 4, 1830, and died in the autumn of 1923, and was therefore 93 not 108 as her kinsfolk asserted. Charlotte's age was never very definitely fixed during her lifetime ; but as far back as 1912, when old Reni Smith (nee Buckland) was reputed to be 102, Charlotte declared that she remembered Reni still a girl when she herself was grown up and married........

Lol about Wisdom Smith I was not % 100 sure but thought it was correct
Yes Tenet & Keziah were my Grt Grt Grandparents they did go to America several times from 1857 onwards and died there
their eldest Son Nelson as I said was my Grt Grandfather he did go early ,but then stayed in Devonshire until he died

Yes! You've been in contact with my mum! Haha, she's been doing all the Smith stuff and I've been doing extra bits and bobs (I joke that I'm better at it than her and so she needs the help ;) ) We've managed to sort all the Wisdom's recently so we think we're all set for them.
Reservey/Rizavoi and Tom are still causing us a headache. We knew she was baptised in 1830 and assumed she was baptised aged 10 as the burial record up here in Worcester shows her to be 108.

Rizzavoy Smith (daughter of John and Nanny Smith nee Biles) is in my sons tree. Part of the Headington gypsy clan. Rizzavoy had a son named Nathan Fletcher in about 1836. Rizzavoy's grandfather was Wisdom, son of the famous Jasper. King of the fiddlers.
