hi there
could anyone tell me how i could go about finding out about my g.grandfathers job as a harness maker/ saddler journeyman. Do you think there may be records some where of an apprenticeship. He was born in Weedon Lois Northamptonshire in 1842 and on each census from 1861 his occupation is listed as a Harness Maker. I'd like to find out if there are any records of his apprenticeship and employment . any help would be greatfully received thankyou

Hi
As many apprenticeships were privately done through local village Journeymen [I have one for an ancestor who taught young apprentice shoemakers] you may find a document at the local record office.
http://www3.northamptonshire.gov.uk/Community/record/Records.htm
which has Apprenticeship Records and maybe it is worth enquiring. They don't seem to be online at present though.
There is also the following, which may give you some idea where to look.
