Hi,

Just found a Green How Terr. on www.historicaldirectories.org
It says it's off Scotswood Rd, Newcastle
Only number which is relevant is:
69  Hill, W clerk

Green How Terr., St. Aidans Parish & Armstrong Ward

Is this the right town?

Sorry, forgot to say that this was in:
Ward's Directory of Newcastle-on-Tyne, 1916
Apologies.

Cannot find the other streets listed. No directories for the area later than 1916 on this particular site, I'm afraid.
What sort of period are we looking at, Faithen?

Welcome to RootsChat, by the way :)

Hi Faithen,
Some areas have Rate Books and these tell you who owned houses, and who occupied them.
Here is a list of the ones held by Tyne and Wear Archives - it also explains a bit about Rate Books and what information they contain:
http://www.tyneandweararchives.org.uk/pdf/userguide18.pdf
The archives office might also have a street/place index which give information about where old streets were, and what information exists on these. Some also have old photographs collection (but sometimes local studies libraries hold these).
I hope this helps - others too might suggest a few things you could try.
If you're confused about anything please ask - everyone on rootschat is very friendly.
Good luck,
Paulene :)

Greenhow Terrace was only a couple of streets away from Ethel St, towards the St Johns cemetery, running between Buddle Rd and Amelia Rd. Most of these were Tyneside flats where the owner lived in the upper flat and let the lower one.
Fergusons lane runs into Benwell Village from the west and the houses were  mostly of later build. The other two streets I don't recall.

Hi Faithen,

Found these for you:
http://www.amber-online.com/exhibitions/scotswood-road?p=1
* Not the roads you mention, but gives a little bit of an idea of what the area used to be like.

And, this book - if you don't want to buy a copy, it might be available through your library, Faithen:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Scotswood-Road-Jimmy-Forsyth/dp/1852240148

Still think it's very likely the local studies libaray in the area will have some photos for you.

Hope this helps - you never know, the book on the area might even mention who lived at various places.
Paulene :)

Faithen probably hasn't checked his/her emails yet; so will probably get back to you later.
