I've found a relative on the 1911 census in Desford Industrial School. Does anyone know if there are any records I can research & where they are kept.
If anyone knows anything about the school, I'd appreciate any info.
Thank you Janet.

I have also found a relation in the 1911 census who was at this school. Did you find anything out at the archives? Looked the school up on google and it led me to your question on this web site. I joined the site as it will be a useful thing to query research problems and thought I would contact you to see if you have got anywhere with your research.

I rang the archives today & the records are closed to the public. The archivist told me to write a letter requesting the information I wanted quoting the freedom of information act & they may then be able to help.

Many thanks for your reply. I suppose we will just have to be content with the fact that they had done wrong and were sent there as punishment. The neice of this inmate has told me that he went on to marry and have a family so I expect it didn't do him that much harm being in there. Best wishes on your research.

Not sure if you're all still out there, but looking up a relative who was in Desford, I noticed National Archives say Norfolk Record Office hold some papers regarding the school.
;D
