I have access to census records, but not parish records... so.....
I am trying to find out more about my 4x great grandfather Michael Kendrick (born c1795, died 21 Feb 1891 in Wednesbury). So far I know he married Sarah (b1796).. but who was she?
I have one clue from the International Genealogical Index. Could she be Sarah Haddock who married a Michel Kendrick in 25th Dec 1811 in Sedgley?
I have the names of seven children they had, all born in Wednesbury.... Help gratefully received...!

On the census entries Sarah is consistantly a lot younger than Michael. On 1851 she is 39 and he is 55. So her birth approx 1812, so cannot be marriage of 1811.
that is unless he married 2 Sarahs ::)
He would have been only 15/16 for 1811 marriage.
There is a marriage 1825 on Familysearch;
Michael KENDRICK to Sarah CHANT
5 Sept. 1825, St Peter or Collegiate, Wolverhampton,Staffs
What is the birthdate of first child you have?
Is this the same census you have?
1851 has children as; David 19, Isiah 15, Sarah 9, Michael 7, Harriet 5, Jesse 3, William 1.

There are 15 children on IGI born Wednesbury between 1817-1843 with parents Micheal and Sarah. Could there be more than 1 set of M/Sarahs having children same time frame?
-
Ok, could you please post the details of children as the only Sarah Kendrick I can find born 1796 is a Widow by 1841 ::)
There are several people researching this family and they seem to have mixed info/ very confusing.
Also who are you researching back from ie which child?

Hello Trish
I thought it might be these:
1841
HO107 Piece 984 Book 2; Civil Parish Wednesbury; County Staffordshire; Enumeration District 5; Foli: 7; Page 7; Line 1

Hi Ivan,
Glad you found them too ;D
See what I mean, age is way out for Sarah.Plus birthplace;
1841, not born in county
1851, South Wales-Cardicarn?
1861, Walsall Staffs
There is also no death 1891 for Michael( from original post by Marcus) nearest is 1878.

I know what you mean, Trish!
Death record for 1878 for Michael looks right to me! Age 87 so born 1790-91 (in theory).
'Seems Michael was a widower in 1871 (Age 78, Living alone, "Dependant on Parish"). Transcribed on Anc as Michael Frederick!!
Possible death records for Sarah
Deaths Jun 1864
Kendrick Sarah W. Bromwich 6b 433
Deaths Jun 1865
Kendrick Sarah W. Bromwich 6b 367
I don't think we can do much more until Marcus responds.

I'm in the States, so apologies for the delay. Just emigrated.
Strange to see all the postings about my little old inquiry... There are some great brains at work!
All the following children for Michael and Sarah that I have are (all born in Wednesbury):
John (my 4x great grandfather born about 1818 who married Jane Dixon (b about 1814) at Collegiate Church, Wolverhampton on 25 Feb 1839 - from marriage certificate), then there is:
Enoch (Abt 1821), Michael (Abt 1824), Arthur (Abt 1828), George (Abt 1830), Soloman (Abt 1833), Ann (Abt 1835).
Thanks...

By the way, just for completeness... and so you know I have the right set of names...
This is from memory but Solomon is definitely a brother of John (from another census entry of him, his family and children as his brother stayed with them), and his father's name (Michael) originally came from John and Jane's marriage certificate... So I am being as methodical as possible about good sources. I am also confident about Sarah's name from census entries - but have little to go on with her.

I am trying to find out more about my 4x great grandfather Michael Kendrick (born c1795, died 21 Feb 1891 in Wednesbury).
I think perhaps your reference to Michael living until 1891 has confused us! The children you mention are in the 1841 Census with Sarah as the head of the family but she is a widow!
Could you please clarify matters for us.

Sorry, I was a dope - he died in Feb 1841. It was a typo! Sorry...

Hiya Marcus
Off the Wolverhampton Archives site http://www.wolverhamptonhistory.org.uk/resources/familyhistory the witnesses at Michael Kendrick and Sarah Chants wedding were a Sarah Bennet and a Thomas Riddo
But the thing that caught my eye was a marriage 12.1.1790 of a Phineas Kendrick to a Hannah Chillingworth with witnesses Ann Clark and Michael Kendrick - could he be named after his grandfather and this is a relative?
Just to clarify Phineas (bap 20.3.1774) and Michael (bap 16.6.1770) are probably brothers. Parents are Henry and Elizabeth both baptised Willenhall

Ok lets get this sorted. I have spent a lot of time on this and worked with someone from One Name Studies. Here it is.
My ancestor Michael Kendrick b. 1789 in Wednesbury mar Sarah Haddock b. 1793 they married in 1811. Michael was a COACHBUILDER.
The other Michael b 1795 Wednesbury mar Sarah Chant this Michael was a blacksmith.
Michael the Coachbuilder died 21st February 1841 (death cert). His father was Samuel Kendrick and his mother was Elizabeth Muckley.
I know the children of both Michael's.
By the way Sarah died in 1850
