Hello Nicola,
In the GRO Army births and baptisms there is a birth in 1832 in Portsmouth of a Regimental Birth of a Mary BLAKE. Father was in the 84th regiment, and the Volume number is 914, page 3. It maybe worth trying to order this and see if it's your one if you can get no further, and if no-one can come up with anything else.

Thats great, sorry to be so green but where do I order this from ?

If you go to
http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/
and then follow the links for overseas births you should be able to order it. They have an e-mail address and phone number if you are at all unsure, and I have found them incredibly helpful.

This record?

It isn't supported by any parish reference. Probably a wild guess on the submitter's part.
How old were the parents?
Where had the father served?
What kids appear with 'em in census?
Also recall that MOST marriages took place in the bride's parish.
Was John ever stationed in/near Cornwall?

Yes thats the one. John Blake brn abt 1801 Ireland married Ann Barnet brn abt 1797 St Austell (haven't been able to find either birth yet) nor a marriage !! by 1834 were living in Helston, Cornwall and stayed there. On the 1841 census he's a servant.
