Title: Albert Brewer
Post by: ThompJack on Tuesday 03 March 09 17:38 GMT (UK)
I'm looking for an Albert Brewer in the Epsom area who would have been of breeding age in 1888. This man is a mystery as he is shown as the deceased  father on a marriage certificate dated 1914 of George Brewer. The birth certificate of George in 1888 shows no father but Alice, the mother, was born, bred & died in Epsom. I have found the baptism record which shows the father as William Brewer who was indeed married to Alice. Unfortunately he died 2 years before the birth so someone obviously consoled the grieving widow. This has caused much head scratching so any help or ideas would be gratefully received.

Sounds like young George made up a father to go on his marriage cert, and just took a shine to the name Albert.

I wouldnt waste time effort and head scratching on it - even if you found an Albert Brewer around yuo would never know if it was George's dad or not ....

agree with Liz.

Its quite frequent that a Father was 'fabricated' for a Marriage Register entry - covered all sorts of embarrassments ....
