Title: Death of Dr. Charles E.H. WEST
Post by: LAandJA on Friday 27 February 09 18:19 GMT (UK)
I know that he was practicing in Northumberland in 1901 as per Census.  And, that he and his wife Jane Meldrum WEST nee KNOTT, were at his daughter's, Dorothy Gertrude WEST and Eric S. Craig's wedding in Glasgow, in 1911, but have lost him after that.
Does anyone have any records on this family.  They lived in Morpeth, also.
Charles E. H. West ( Edward Harold) was a brother to my husband's GGrandfather, Christopher Harfield WEST, also a physician.
Thankyou in Advance,

Yes, it is a good probability.  He was born in 1864.  Thanks so much for that.  Is there anything on his wife. as noted I have seen her Meldrum WEST and Jane Meldrum WEST nee KNOTT.  Her father was a quite well known portrait artist Tavernor KNOTT and her uncle was a very well known mathemetician, Cargill KNOTT.
I was hoping to track down some family, if they are still alive, through their daughter Dorothy Gertrude CRAIG nee WEST married to Eric S. CRAIG in 1911 who was also a medical student at the time.
Charles E.H. WESTs ancestors were orignailly from Teddington, England. His father, William Henry Hore WEST was in the Royal Marines and his grandfather, Christopher WEST was in the Battle of Trafalgar in 1805 as a midshipman.  We have a lot of information on that side of the family, but it all seems to stop in 1911 with the marriage.
Thanks Again,
Judy Anderson

Hi Judy

What an interesting family you are researching  :)

The nearer to us you get the harder it seems to find anyone.  My search of FreeBMD.org.uk shows no death of Jane that I can see in Tynemouth, but one in 1917 in Morpeth, which probably isn't her
as she is 77 years old.
Not having any census after 1911 makes it awkward so I think by using this site you may get more answers than I can give you.

Of course you have the sites that you pay for!! I try not to use them if possible.

Good luck

Wendy

Geeze, I had a whole e-mail done, and my hand hit the enter button and it all disappeared.
Thanks again for the info.  I do use Free BMD a lot but somehow must have missed that. I am thinking that his wife, Jane Meldrum Or Meldrum Jane West was only a couple of years older than him, and with him dying at only 59 it is a good chance that she may have either gone to live with her daughter, Dorothy Gertrude CRAIG nee WEST and son-in-law Eric S. WEST married in 1911, and him a medical student, or perhaps gone back to Scotland where she was born and perhaps her family still lived.  Not sure.
Yes, it is a very interesting family.  I don't know anything about this side of the family, though.  It looks as if, the little that I have found of Eric S. CRAIG, that he came from a pretty well-to-do family as well.
  So, on with my search.
Thanks Again,
Judy
