Hi,
Just wondering if anyone is going to the Historical Records Search room - (I think they are in Edinburgh at New Register House?!) and could possibly look up a record for a Will for me from 1979?
Looking for record for my great aunt ELIZABETH PATERSON MENZIES. She died on 19th May 1979 in Ayrshire Hospital, Kilwinning and was living at Kiln Court, Irvine prior to her death.
Her surname at birth was MARTIN but her mother remarried a MENZIES. Elizabeth never married.
The informant of her death was her solicitor, Robert Duff/Duffy of Largs.
Her parents were Robert Martin (& stepfather Robert Menzies) and Mary Taylor Martin (nee McDonald).
What I am trying to find is whether she may have given instruction for her funeral/burial/cremation in her will as I can't find any record of where this happened.
Don't know if a record would be found but I have run out of avenues in trying to find my great aunt.
Any help or suggestions would be much appreciated!
Thanks,
Andrea

Hi Andrea
I was going through to Edinburgh to look for a will post 1960. Like you i believed i would find it in the Historical Search room. When i called they told me that wills post 1960 aren't in the Historical Search room but in the Legal Search room. They will perform a search to see if a particular will exists - for free. However if you want a copy it will cost £6. If you send an email to legal@nas.gov.uk they will deal with your enquiry without you needing to visit them. You need to tell them the name of person, the date of death and their last known residence. Hope this helps.
