Thanks

Hi Hilary
Haven't a clue at the moment but if you can tell us where you have got the name from it might help :D Is it on a census and do you have names of people?

Of course!
I got it from RootsCHat! ;)
More specifically 1851 Census
HO107 piece 2222 Folio 89 Page 19
Look up requested for Alice Boucock, she was in Broughton Lancs at the time and supposedly born in Compsfield Derbyshire
Many Thanks

Hi....
I have had a look at the 1851 image and it looks like Comptstall to me, which is Compstall.
Compstall is near Marple Bridge, Stockport, Cheshire and is an area which could well have once counted as Derbyshire, being near the county borderline.
On the 1861 census, Alice's place of birth is Bugsworth, Derbyshire...which later changed its name to Buxworth...which is about 2 miles away from Whaley Bridge.
Hope this helps.

Thanks very much Scriv2
Now I will try and find Alices parents.

Is her name Boucock or Boncock? She is married to James in the census you mention ...do you know her maiden name?
-
I think I have her...
James Bowcock marries Alice Whitaker 15 Feb 1835 at Manchester Cathedral,Lancashire....IGI Index Batch number M005468
Alice Whittaker was christened on 24 June 1804 in Taxal, Cheshire....ref IGI Batch ref C866896....parents Thomas Whittaker and Mary
Taxal is Whaley Bridge,Derbyshire SK 23 (UK)..

Well done scriv2 :) I certainly hadn't heard of Compsfield and didn't know where to start even though I thought I knew Derbyshire.

:)Credit must go to Google... once I had a look at the census image and read it as Comptstall not Compsfield.
It also helped that I have also done research in the Cheshire/Derbys/Lancs borders and have living relatives near Marple now.

Thank you both for your help. Her name was Boucock. Her daughters name was Ruth Whittaker Boucock. I love it when they named their children with their maiden names!
