Post by: Tracy1 on Thursday 26 February 09 18:49 GMT (UK)
Hi,

I'm hoping some one may be able to help me with tracing William Rooke in 1901.

In 1891 William was living in at 12 Erringrton rd, Paddington.

Willaim Rooke
head,
married,
34yrs
insurance supt.
Born Reading, Berks.

Wife;
Elizabeth Rooke
34yrs
Born Birmingham

Daughter
Maud E
12yrs
Born Birmingham

Daughter
Elizabeth
11yrs
Born Birmingham

He signed My Gt Gt Grandfather's death certificate in 1897.  His place of residence is recorded as 54 Ingrave street, Clapham junction.

William was
Born in Sept.1/4 1856, Reading, v.2c, p?.
He married
1878 Mar 1/4 Elizabeth CunninghamStaff, warc, Worc.  V.6c.p.488 Kings Norton.

Following the death of my Gt.Gt.Grandfather, James Rooke, His wife Maria died in 1901.
Their family was split.  I was wondering if William took in any of his brother's children.

With thanks,
Tracy

Hi,

Thanks, that was quick!  I don't know where William is but at least it seems he only has his own family living with him.

I'll have to have a look for a death maybe?

Best wishes
Tracy

Hi,

There was
Florence Maria born;27/5/1887, Holborn.
Minnie Born 1889ish.  Clerkenwell
Grace born 1890 Shoreditch
Alexander Rooke born 1895 Hackney
Charles born 1900/died 1900 ( born significantly more than 9 mths after his father's death!
His mother, Maria, died following his birth.)

There is also possibly another sibling.
Frederick william Rooke born 1893, Shoreditch
He fits in with the dates above as a possibility.

Frederick Rooke born Kilburn. 1889
Herbert Rooke born Kilburn . 1891.  These are posibly cousins to the above.  In 1901 they were living with Maria Rooke, widow, 63yrs, born Bucklebury, Berks.
This Maria was married to James and William's Uncle - Frederick Rooke.  Frederick's wife Maria, was a sister to James and William's mother, Emily.

Many thanks
Tracy

And here is the Frederick! It will take a bit of work to work out the relationships! Looks like Mrs Amelis Young on this one, was nee Maton, so would link with the family that Grace went to live with.
The little Rookes seemed to be spread around cousins and Aunts didnt they.

Dear Liz

Thank you very much for the help.

Yes, they were certainly spread around weren't they.  I can't quite see the connection as cousin with Jane Sullivan, but as her parents were Smith's perhaps I won't find it easy to connect them!

Thanks again,
Tracy

Maybe Sarah Smith was nee Rooke, and her father a brother to Florence and Aleaxadra's dad.
Or maybe Sarah was nee xxxxx and her sister married a brother of Frederick's mother or father ..........
or ....... ! ! I could go on but there are so many different combinations!
