Good Morning,

It seems w're talking about 2 different men:
- the Wesleyan Lay preacher in Llanbadrig on the 1901 census, married to a Jane, whow was born ca. 1840 and who in my opinion was in Durham in 1881
- a nearly 20 years younger Edward, son of Hugh and Ruth

Hi and Welcome from me too  :)

If the family that Tati has found on the 1861 is yours, there is a possible marriage showing on the North Wales BMD in St John's Church, Rhosymedre, Ruabon in 1848.  A Ruth Edwards is on thesame page.

The full GRO reference is

March Quarter, 1848, Wrexham, vol 27 page 381

Note that the 1841 census is missing for this area.

I've checked the parish records for Ruabon but there are no baptisms are showing for Hugh circa 1812.

I've checked the baptisms for both Ruth and Hugh but nothing -  so I can't get mothers' names to match the two fathers.

The Clwyd FHS do have a CD on non-conformist registers which one of the members, William Russell Jones has. I'll Pm him and draw his attention to this thread.

 :D

I think that this is the marriage of Hugh Bowen's parents:

Ruabon Parish Registers

29 June 1810 Edward Bowen and Jane Davies. Both of the parish. Both made their mark.

Witnesses - Hugh Bowen and Elizabeth Berkeley.

I've got all the C of E registers for both Ruabon and Rhosymedre parishes but not the non-conformist index. My Ruabon ancestors were very much C of E.

HiAmy

the Blackwell Index is the index of non-conformist registers for Denbighshire.

This is taken from the Clwyd FHS site describing it:

Quote
    * This transcript of the early nonconformist registers for Denbighshire was prepared from microfilm of the original registers held at the National Archives. These registers were called in under the Non-Parochial Register Act of 1840, and were subsequently deposited with the Registrar General. They contain information relating to the period before 1837.

    * The project was organised by Stewart Blackwell, who was one of the founders and first Chairman of Clwyd Family History Society.

    * This CD is dedicated to his memory.

Hi Amy  :)

Do you have any children for Lewis who were born after 1911?  If so, the birth indexes do give the mother's maiden name which might help identify Lewis's spouse.

Also the 1911 census should give more information when it comes out for the Welsh counties in the summer.

Hi Amy

I've now found the baptism of Hugh Bowen, father of Edward Bowen.

St Mary's, Ruabon
2 June 1813 Hugh Bowen s/o Edward and Jane. Abode - Rhosymadoc.

Thus parents are as we thought but it's nice to get confirmation.
