Hi could anyone help solve a puzzle for me
im looking for the marriage of Robert Payne (east grinstead)
to Tamar (either as bridgland or Mitchell)
i have thier first childs birth certificate
1859 - father robert payne mother Tamar payne formerly Mitchell
and thier last child Emily payne (my G grandmother)
b 1875 - Father Robert payne, mothyer Tamar payne formerly Bridgland
im a little baffled - im definate on the Tamar as she appears in all census's after 1851 as tamar payne - and on her deather registration as such.
definately east grinstead - i may have the date range slightly off - but in 1850 she would have been about 20
thanks for any help

Hello Bethan,
Found this one on the IGI:
Marriage 4th October 1858, Reigate Surrey.
Robert Payne and Tamer Mitchell
I have also answered your SFHG posting and you will find more details about Tamar there.
Regards,
Phil

HO107 1641 F255 1851 for East Grinstead has Tamar Bridgeland age 20 b East Grinstead, a house servant with the Lenox family. Perhaps she married twice?

Thanks for looking at that - it helps confirm what ive now been given.
Thanks to phil i know she was born out of wedlock and then her mum married, hence to two names.
i had been looking for bridgland, but she married as a mitchell.
and not in the place i had been looking, when i went back i found the record, i had discounted as not being her...
must say im so glad i found this site
