Title: John GURNEY, Cornwall
Post by: Stephee on Sunday 22 February 09 18:15 GMT (UK)
Hi All, I am trying to trace the maiden name for a Isabella who married a John Gurney from Padstow sometime in the 1880's. I know members of the family became quite famous in later years. Thanks :)

There is no John & Isabella Gurney on either the 1891 or 1901 census

Hi Stephee,

Sorry the marriage was not in Padstow, nor were banns read in Padstow. (Seem to be gentry so wherever the marriage was it was probably by licence) I cannot see the marriage listed as occurring elsewhere in Cornwall. I noted John and Isabella were keen on using the name Peter as a middle name so I wondered if it may have been Isabella's name. I now see no it was John's mothers name, so no help.  :'(

Cheers Kris  :)

My thanks to you all. A stroke of luck led me to find out that Isabella's surname was Carter. Interested to know how she had Peter in the name , including some of her children. Thanks again :D
