Thomas Gowland Liddle was born in Durham,I am not sure whereabouts,
He married Isabella Baldam in 1934...Durham
Is there anyone out there connected with the Liddle name?
-
Hi Chrissie,
Not connected but hoping this helps:
According to Thomas' death registration, he was born 27 March 1912
There's a likely birth registration:
Thomas G Liddle
June quarter 1912
Durham 10a 886
Mother's maiden name: Christison
:)

Hi Chrissie

You are so quick,
I have come across the name Christison...To be in contact with anyone connected would be like Xmas,
Possibility Thomas was from Kelloe...Dont know if any siblings
-
Given the marriage date and Thomas's birth I would think there is a good chance there are quite a few siblings.1901 census check might help.

Don't know if this is any use as it's going further back but my 3 x g grandfathers second wife was Elizabeth Liddell b 1818 in Tanfield, daughter of William Liddell. The family lived in Thornley where William was a colliery blacksmith. If there is a connection with your Liddles then I have some bits of interesting information to share.
-
Thankyou all so much, this is amazing, especially as I was at st Helens a few months ago(nearly 300 miles from me)
To see the other names is brilliant,so exciting I have so much more to go on now,
Thankyou to you all for your time,
Chrissie

If the Christison's were living in the Quarrington/Coxhoe area they might have used Cassop-cum-Quarrington St. Paul for their baptisms.

Hi Chrissie
Glad you have some info to digest. Please let us know how you get on. Just curious St Helens?? St Helens Auckland by any chance.
Gary
-
Hi Janis
If That is the family in 1881 then they travelled about a bit.

Kelloe St. Helen. Claim to fame was that Elizabeth Barrett [later add Browning] was baptised there. Same page as my Uncle Matthew Snowdon ;)

This is great..such a big help.
St Helens church is at Kelloe, not far from Coxhoe
-
Gary,
Which family moved around a bit? Seems the Liddle's and Christison's both lived in the Kelloe Parish area.
-
St Helens is the most beautiful church,I was infact born 5 mins from there,I love to visit on my trips to Durham
-
Hi Janis
If The Christison's in the 1881 are the same family then all 4 children are born in different places.
Isabella b Brandon
Martha b Quarrington hill
Joseph b Castleside
Sarah J b Willington
Gary
-
That's not moving around that much--they stayed in the same county--especially if the father was a coal miner. They moved alot. Mine even went to Wales for less than 2 years.
Janis
-
Hi Janis
I Know what you mean, but Quarrington Hill to Castleside is not a five minute walk.
Gary
-
Hi,
All my family on other side of family were also miners, they used to move around wherever the pits were taking on workers,In the 60s even my Dad moved us to Wales thinking the work would be better
-
Hi Gary,
Please may I ask where Castleside is? I have never heard of it,
-
Hi Chrissie
Castleside is the other side of Consett.
Gary

Possible Christison's in 1881. No sign of father. Quarrington Hill next door to Kelloe.
According to 1891, he was Joseph, born Scotland ca. 1848. He's a coal Miner in 1891.
The nearest match I see in 1881 is a prisoner in Dorset, occupation Farm Labourer - not sure!

And 10 years earlier, at Willington Durham, there's a Joseph Christison age 23 born Scotland, occupation Police Constable! :P

Hi,Am i doing something wrong then?
When i click on to the search uk database at top of page to look up certain names and dates..
I get some matches that could be,but to click on details i have to subscribe.
I have been on can i say it? (gr) and when i used to look up census or births i used to top up credits with my debit card.
-
Awww god bless you Chrissie
The search database is an advert. RootsChat is free but Its got to get revenue from somewhere hence the adverts.
-
Oh bless me too!!!
But please where do you all get your info from then? surley most of you are subscribed to it,there is so much to see if you pay.
I used to top up 5.00 a time for gr ,but because i am so useless it cost me a fortune...I got a fair way with another line of my family though.
Where do you get your census info from bmd etc.
-
Chrissie
Thats the beauty of this site many RootsChatters subscribe to lots of different sites but it would be totally out of the question to subscribe to every site the cost would be enormous. So thats why we are happy to pool our resourse's to keep the costs to a minimum and to share the years of experience with others.
Gary
-
What--I think I subscribe to most of the sites--well the main one for sure. Then I have a tall stack of parish record transcripts for Durham and Northumberland that if I see that someone has some family member hailing from there in the years I own--I look them up.
There is the free BMD http://freebmd.rootsweb.com/ it is not complete but nearly there. It is also available on Anc***.com but I don't know if that part is free as I have been a subscriber for 10 years. Depending on where you are as to how you would want to order certs. I tend to use the GRO as it works best with a credit card. The Durham site is able to use credit/debit cards too but they charge for postage. For the IGI extracted records I use the Hugh Wallace site http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~hughwallis/IGIBatchNumbers.htm
Then there is the Bishop trancripts on line: http://search.labs.familysearch.org/recordsearch/start.html?datestamp=1199543524890#p=0
Lot of things available and most of us here would rather help folks out than say--dust or do laundry. ;D

Thankyou Janis,

No more housework for me then eh,I am smitten

Hello Everyone..Its been a few years...But I love all of this just as much now.....x
