Hi all,
Can anyone help?
I am looking for Jane Thompson b. 1838 St Lukes Middlesex, living with her 4 children in Plymouth:-
John Thompson b. 1866 St Lukes, Middlesex
George A Thompson b. 1867 Plymouth
Eliza Thompson b. 1869 Plymouth
William H Thompson b. 1870 Plymouth
There is also a daughter born later:-
Emma Thompson b. 1872 Plymouth
So you would think I would be able to find them on the 1871 census living in Plymouth. Not only can I not find the birth reg. of any of these children, I can't find any of them living anywhere in the 1871 census. Trying all name variants, leaving out surname, christian name etc
Her husband is a seaman, and I believe I have found him in lowestoft on the vessel Marthas.
Can anyone give me any pointers as to what to do next. Jane's maiden name is Ennever, but that has drawn a blank to.
Any help appreciated.

Hi Michaela
Have you found (in 1871) her husband James and/or her mother Jane ("Enever"), who have the younger children with them in 1881: RG11/878/113/11?
Sorry - I see you have found James...

Hi Anna,
Thanks anyway for asking. Her mother's name is actually Elizabeth Ennever (nee Griffin). I know how names came be recorded wrongly, Jane died in 1880 in child birth, having her daughter Jane. I have only just found out that information after years of searching. Baby jane is living with another family in 1881, maybe a wet nurse. I'd had her down as a child of James 2nd wife Ann as seen in 1891 census.
Cheers

Also I am only assuming the James I've found in Lowestoft is the right man, as he is the only man I can find. I am hoping he is definitely the Seaman I have found in 1861 on the vessel Narcissus. He's place of birth of Shorne, Kent given is closer than the one he gives in the 1871 census, which is Woolwich Kent. He was actually born in Higham, Kent
