Hello All,
Does anyone have access to the parish records of Northbourne. I am looking for Rammell 1600 to 1700s. I have notes of two baptisms of John 1673 son Thomas and Katherine and also Thomas 1675.
Thanks very much in advance,
Gillian ;)
-
Hi Gillian
I've got Northbourne PRs from 1695 (to 1955 for Marriages, 1859 for Baptisms & 1869 for Burials) & the only RAMMELL to show up is an Elizabeth Rammell who was a witness at the wedding of William Cannon & Elisabeth Hoile in 1776.
???
It seems unlikely that this one name is missing from every section, unless they all moved away well before 1695.
Betty
-
Hi Betty,
thanks for that. Maybe they did move away by 1695. The Rammells did seem to move around a bit from village to village. I have found them in Nonington earliest date 1612 and Silvertswold from c1640.
Thanks again,
Gillian :)
-
I notice there's quite a few of them (with variant spellings) in Deal & Sturry.
I've got one in my tree - Lilian Ramell married Reginald Arthur Skinner in 1915
:)
Betty
-
Hi Betty,
Are the Sturry Rammells 1600 - 1700s?
Haven't got your Lilian I'm afraid.
Regards,
Gillian
-
Hi Gillian
I've got Marriages from 1754, the earliest Rammell is 1855, Baptisms from 1813, the earliest Rammell is 1833, & Burials from 1813 with the earliest Rammell 1845.
Betty

Hi Betty,
Thanks for checking. I am really interested in "early Rammells". I have tracked them down to as early as 1612 in Nonington and they moved from there to Sibertswold and Eastry. So any 1600-1700 sightings are of interest to me!
Thanks again,
Gillian
-
Hi
A silly idea maybe but have you looked in Sandwich as Rammell has a french ring to it and many french families came to Kent in this area.
Good luck
Lis
-
Hi Lis,
A lot of Rammells moved on to Deal from Nonington/Eastry. I cannot find any Rammells prior to 1612 which is the earliest PR entry in Nonington. Where the family where beforehand, I don't know. They were not in Nonington as the Prs go back to the 1500s!!

Have you got all the Rammells from Shepherdswell and Coldred. I have the PRs here and found some mistakenly transcribed Rammells as Parnell
Edward, Katherine and Elizabeth. They have the same BD as the IGI. I don't think the IGI has Edward though.
Have you these? Would you like them?

Hi Lis,
Thanks ever so much for the time you have spent on my Rammells!!
I am now busy sorting them all out into families!!
Thanks again!!
Gillian
-
Gillian,
I have just read this with interest. I am related to the Rammells from Worcestershire. Although my branch are the Scottish ones.
I have linked all the Scottish families together and now I'm looking to try and link all the Worcestershire Rammells together (could take a while, but there seems to be several groups relating back to common ancestors)
From what I can gather, there are three distinctive branches of Rammells, from:
1. Kent
2. Worcestershire
3. Lancashire
I wonder if they are distinct groups or if they are related back to a common ancestor? I would love to know what you think and would love to share notes. Its just a shame there is so many ways to mis-spell 'Rammell'.
Regards
Tracey
-
Hi Tracey,
Yes I have come across Worcestershire Rammells but have found no link to my Kent ones.
My earliest Rammell record is Edward bap 1612 Nonington. His parents and elder siblings where not baptised in Nonington but I have as yet not discovered where.
There may be a link somewhere!
Regards,
Gillian

Hi Vanessa,

Have just you an email with Sue's address. She is descended from Emily Adams, Annie Rammell Adams' younger sister.

Hi I am a descendent of the Rammell Adams bloodline.
My mother is Sylvia Gloria Ann Savage (named after her aunt), daughter of Raymond Reginald Walter Savage who is the brother of Sylvia Edna May Savage. They also had a brother called Eric. This makes Annie Rammell Adams + Reg Walter Savage my great grandparents also.
Unfortunately Raymond Savage recently died. My maltese relatives are over here ( my mums half brothers family from his previous marriage when Raymond was stationed there in the 40's)
Raymond had 6 children that we definately know about and possibly more!
This makes Anne Miles my mum Sylvia's cousin.
Sylvia has 2 children myself (Lois Coltman) and Greg Coltman
We have had a busy time since Raymonds death figuring out the who's who of the savage bloodline
This is an amazing find!!!
I would love a copy of the photo of Elizabeth Rammell Adams if that would be possible? my Grandfather said I reminded him of his mother (Annie, he was only 10 when she died), maybe there is a likeness to his Aunt Elizabeth too!
Were any of the Rammell Adams from Totnes in Devon ??? (Reginald Walter Savage was a Lance Sergt in in 2nd Bn Devonshire Regiment stationed in Quetta India) ???
-
Hello Lois,
Welcome to Rootschat!!!!
Gosh another Rammell/Adams descendent!!!
Do you have any old photos? If you snd me your email address using the "personal message" I'll send you my photo of Elizabeth Rammell b1879 Totnes my great grandmother. The Rammell family lived in Totnes Devon & then moved to Newport in Wales. The Adams lived in quite a few places including Exeter in Devon.
Regards,
Gillian
-
Hi Gillian, nice to hear from you, this is all very interesting!
I will be able to get some photos i'm sure. Thankyou for the info, i am pleased to hear that the family were from Totnes as Raymond said. I work in totnes (coincidentally) and will see if there is any information about our family in the local archives. It is a lovely little town with a very vibrant local community and they have their own museum.
I will send my email as you said..

Hello All,
I am researching tangents.
Found a report in The Brisbane Courier for the death of Mr Thomas Lake Rammell (b. 1836 Sturry) who drowned in a waterhole of the Condamine river, NSW, Aus. 12/12/1870
http://newspapers.nla.gov.au/ndp/del/search?searchTerm=Thomas+Lake+Rammell
not a lot but original
and there's a bit about Thomas Lake Rammell's nephew Dr George Rammell Footner O.B.E, M.B, F.R.C.S. (1879 - 1943). His obituary is quite an interesting read...
http://www.jstor.org/pss/20326424
Am looking up the Sobraon which sailed with James Rammell on board in 1881 to Australia....
Just for anyone who is interested...
-
Hi Lois,
Yes there are quite a few snippets of interesting Rammell info about.
If you find out what James was doing in Australia I would be very interested to hear. He died 1914 in Drummoyne NSW. I don't know whether he married or not. His brother Edward also sailed out to see him just before he died.
James went to Australia just after the death of his mother Fanny in 1880 Ilfracombe.
Regards,
Gillian

Hi Lois - George Rammell Footner was my grandfather - I couldn't get that link you posted to work - any chance you could get it to me another way? I can provide my email address if that's easiest?
Thanks

Hi Jebber and Gigi - thanks so much for this, it was good to fill in a few blanks and get a bit of colour around the basics of his life that I was aware of. And yes, Gigi I would definitely be interested to find out a bit more about his ancestry - if you could PM me your email address I'll give you mine if you have any further info you can share; I'm impressed at how much info you have at your fingertips.
Cheers

Hello Lois
I know that its 10 years on from when you posted, but I've just come across this. I think that the Raymond Reginald Walter Savage you mention was my father. If you are still picking up email from RootsChat, I'd love to talk about Savage family history?
Kindest Regards
Richard

Hi Richard, your text to Lois came to me.
I don't think I can help but am sure Lois Coltman can.

Hi Richard,
Welcome to Rootschat!
A distant relative! My connection is through the Rammells. Annie Rammell Adams your grandmother (?) is the daughter of Annie Rammell & George Adams. Annie Rammell is the sister of my gt grandmother Elizabeth Rammell b1878 Totnes.
I am happy to share my information. Do you have any photos of your Savage/adams/Rammell ancestors?
Best regards
Gigi
-
Hello Gigi
I have the Northbourne PR's and there is only one Rammell mentioned. Mary ROMMEL married William MARSH 28 May 1695.
Kind Regards
AJ
-
Hi AJ,
Thanks. Mary Rammell is one of mine. She is the daughter of Thomas and Catherine, living in Northbourne. Thomas died 1720 in Northbourne but I haven't a burial for his wife Catherine. Maybe she married again.
Best regards
Gillian
-
Hi Gillian,
Long shot, I know, but as here are no Rammells recorded in the surrounding parishes at that time, I looked in St Leonard's Deal records and there are four children baptised to William and Mary Marsh in 1705/8/9/15. Marsh was a very big family so this may well not be the right one but it's the only one I can find whose dates are roughly right.
Regards
AJ
-
Thanks AJ, will investigate those baptisms in Deal.
