Frank Logan was born 1919 in Geraldton West Australia,
his father was named William Logan of or near Glasgow,
William married Agnes Ellen Bantow of Victoria Australia,
her father was Karl Julius Bernard Bantow b1866 Rugen Germany,

Hi flogged,
A William Logan born in 1891 went from London to Fremantle by sea in 1911 .. he was a 'gardener' .... but no UK address given.
Another went the same route in 1914 and his occupation was 'clerk', again no UK address.

flogger,
Here is a GRO index of William Logan births in Glasgow City from 1890 to 1892. Anything there that seems relevant?

DDJJAKE, thankyou, will put these detail to sister, first thing she needs to do to help is get the birth and death cert, so holding still until she does.
As yet, I cannot say yes or no to any of the name.
-
OK flogged,
I see you have Henderson ...my name - paternal line back to 1660 - on your list. Did yours hail from scotland?
DDJJAKE
-
DDJJAKE, I have nothing on Henderson other than the name of George abt 1810, from that I have his marriage to Regina Maria Greineson b1810 in Bendigo Vic, I have questions about but no responses.
-
DDJJAKE, this is what was given the other day, in papers I have it does show he was a music teacher in Adelaide.
HENDERSON George arr: by 1842 res Thebarton rel RC m Regina Maria C Theophiley Chas 1842 Claude 1844
These births are not listed in the SA Births (Very early SA History a lot were not.)
I thought George from Hindmarsh may have died in 1867 but another entry on the BISA suggests this George (a piano tuner, lab) was from Wexford Ireland and arrived in 1855.
Presume George and Regina left SA and perhaps it is an interstate death certificate which lists George as born in Ludgvan.
The only George Henderson I can see anywhere in Cornwall was born in Bodmin in 1812 (Son of Abraham and Elizabeth, seemed a bit late, and since they had another George in 1817 this cannot be him as we know your George was married by 1832) Looks like we have to get back to 1778 to find an earlier one born anywhere in Cornwall.
I see three children baptised St James Westminster (London) listed on the IGI extracted records. Seem to be a few Henderson families baptising children in St James around this time
William George Francis 18 Nov 1832 (b 20 Oct)
Regina Catherine 8 Nov 1835 (b 3 Oct)
Arthur Louis 30 Apr 1837 (b 20 Apr)
-
DDJJAKE, we have marriage in Ballarat for Son of George, being, Theophilus Charles Henderson to Christina Thomas, Theophilus is written in as from Adelaide Sth Aust, his father was George Henderson, written in as a Professor of Music, paper dated 25 April 1868, this would suggest that the George mentioned below as "Piano Tuner lab" from Ireland may be the one in question.

These notes provided seem to be very accurate, as it was mentioned earlier that George and Regina married in London 1831/32, I have just looked at the death cert for Regina dated 19 Nov 1892 District of Bendigo, the cert does have the names of the 3 children above;
George William Francis;
Regina Catherine;
Arther Louis;
plus others born in Australia, written as in South Aust.
So it would appear that our George is from Ireland, so I will place a posting over there.

Ok, now I am really confused,
I just got a message from the chatroom today being the 6th of March, I click on the link, go to the page, but the last one in there is dated 27 Feb,,,
anyone know why this would occur, or does we have ghosties in the system.
-
Don't know if anyone can help you with this, but the website has had a few hiccups the last couple of days. May be someone was trying to help someone via chat with regards to a link on the boards.
I have to say though, I have come across a ghostie or two on the internet!!
-
Hi Lil Fox,
I don't understand computers and the jargon that people talk of when the say "Go to this link or click on that button and it does that"
I'm lost with the simple things, hubby did it all, I'm lost at checking the security button for "start",
how much luck have you had with FREER, how far back did you get?

Hi everyone: I'm just throwing these names in here because they are mentioned in the conversations. I have Logans ( William Logan - a little farther back- he was born 1840, married Mary Anne Edgar from Ireland in 1885. children were Marion, James, Lizzie, Thomas, John, all born between 1887-1901. On 1901 census lived at 4 Forth Street, St. Rollox, Glasgow.
I also have Hendersons. First one is John married to Margaret Smith, died prior to 1841 . I hail through his son, John. Family said on 1841 census that they came from Fife, but were living in Bo'ness at the time. Hendersons remained in Bo'ness until my great grandmother ( Mary Henderson who married John Petrie) who ended up in Glasgow.
Any connections there?? Donna
-
Hi Donna, at the moment it would apear to be no connection (at the moment)
it seems our Henderson came from Wexford Ireland and married in London, had 3 children there then travelled to Australia, while in Wexford and london he was a piano tuner laborer, in Adelaide he became a professor of music.
With Logan we are still trying to work out, William may have been a family name, don't know, but it was also a common name during those times. Not sure how far spread or how big the name Logan was.
But please, lets try to keep this thread as LOGAN and keep the others where they are listed, not you fault, mine for letting it continue.

Hi All
You need to be careful not to make this incredibly complicated - best to deal with one family name at a time, or it will get unreadable!
Flogged: you do need to get the certificates really - LOGAN is quite a popular name in the area - even I have some!
By all means discuss the other surnames you have in common but best to start new threads if you are seeking information and following up in detail.
Good luck with your various searches!
Kind regards, Arranroots ;)
-
Thankyou, I did not think it would have gone on as much, I should have directed back to where they should have been.
So far as certs for Logan go, I was assisting my hubby's half sister born as LOGAN, I have advised her to get what ever she can and then I will continue.

Bantows mentioned here are my Great Great Aunt and Great Great Great Grandfather. My Pop is currently doing some research and any information on these would be greatly appreciated. Found the Application for Naturalization on the naa.gov.au website which has provided heaps more info than he had.
Thanks

Hi PMDrummond
Welcome to Rootschat! :)
Not sure who you mean by Bantows? Perhaps I missed something. This is an old-ish thread but hopefully the originator is still logging in from time to time and will be back to help.
Kind regards, Arranroots ;)
