I have just got a marriage certificate and it lists the occupation as Head Constable, RIC. Have found a reference on Ancestry.co.uk, how do I go about finding out more details?
Any hints please?

Many thanks,
I have linked through to the relevant page on the Northern Ireland police web site and they will do a search for between £15-£25 depending on grade.
The link is: http://www.psni.police.uk/index/about-us/about_museum/about_museum_genealogy.htm
Others may find this useful.

You can use the reference on Ancestry to order the film from your local Latter Day Saints Family History centre. It takes a couple of weeks to arrive and only costs a couple of pounds to order. I did it and it was an easy way of accessing the records and a lot cheaper than £15.
Good luck!

I have had a lot of information from the Garda Archives in Dublin - here: http://www.garda.ie/Controller.aspx?Page=72&Lang=1
They sent my my ancestor's RIC and DMP reord, as well as those for other relatives. It was really intresting, gave details of his promotions, awards, physical description and details of joining the force.
There was also a newspaper called the Constabulary Gazette. I know they have a microfilm of it at both the NLI and Newspaper Library in London, but I'm not sure if it's available elsewhere.

(I've attached a photograph of my own ancestor, Inspector James Perry who was origially in the RIC, but the photo is of him in his DMP uniform, circa 1890.)

Hi
I have tried to look up information on my Grandfather Patrick Whyte who I recently found out that he was in the RIC, he had medals for bravery apparantly.
I am sure he was from cork as my grandmother was, Nora Cotter(she was Nora Coakley when they married in about 1929 ish) but he died about 1930/31 the year my mother was born, so there is little information on him
If anyone could help I would be very greatful, I have tried the Kew centre but no reply.
Thanks John
