Hello Margaret
This quite plain silk skirt was becoming a fashion trend late 1880's
as was the V shaped bodice. Her hairstyle has a fuller look to it than
was typical at the time but without seeing it all late 1880's would be
my estimate.

How about around 1900, Jim...the hairstyle is 1900ish and the sleeves are definitely 1900ish...the separate bodice...
Margaret, could we see a scan of the whole thing please, including the corners? Don't bother with the .tif, nobody can open those anyway :D
Cheers,

hi thanks for your replies
i`m sorry iv`e scanned the whole photo iv`e got it is just a copy .
i`m trying to get a date because its one of my grandma`s but i dont know if its the g or gg grandma
thanks margaret

I thought maybe 1900ish but the bodice doesn't look right for that period to me
although her hairstyle does. The fashion tended to be a loose fitting blouse or a
banded bodice and flatter skirt to give an hourglass shape(I know you already know this) but I'm thinking out loud, also the material looks a heavy silk popular 1880's.The only other bit of info. I can get from this is the lump of concrete which looks part of a Greco/Roman backdrop.

hi jim
thanks for your reply i was leaning more to the gg grandma who was born in 1873 the other one was born in 1896 .
i was told it was the 1896 one but i wasn`t so sure it was .
thankyou all so much for confirming it for me

Yes, either way, 1896 is way too late for this photo.
If it's the one born on 1873 she'd be 15 in 1888 (late 1880s) and 27 in about 1900.

Hi Margaret.........A much better job could have been achieved if you had scanned the photo at a larger resolution say 300 DPI.
