Thanks for the update Gadget .. I know it doesn't give onecoat a great deal of confidence .. but it looks more hopeful for the North Riding of Yorkshire arriving sooner, rather than later .. !  :)

Just to add...

I phoned the 'Find my Past' people yesterday to ask for help with a look-up, - they were very helpful, but they couldn't find him either! ;D

Anyway, the person that I spoke to said that they were hoping tp have Wales 'live' on there much earlier than the summer!!! (Although they wouldn't give a specific date).

So...perhaps it'll be here sooner than we thought :D

At the WDYTYA Live show on Saturday FindMyPast said that all images have now been copied and all areas should be available by the end of June.

There was also a comment about an all in subscription package (Explorer) I think she mentioned July for this. No price mentioned though!

I already have the FindMyPast  Explorer package - I hope they're not going to increase the sub. I think I'd rather have them separate in that case as I've got most of mine  :-\

Sorry if this has been asked before - I'm back after a very busy few months.

Is there more than one site for the 1911 census (England, mainly) - I would like to know if there's a choice between pay-per-view and one-subscription-buys-all.

At the moment there is only one place to view the 1911 census http://www.1911census.co.uk  Wales and some counties of England are still not available.

Findmypast have been responsible for reproducing the census returns but at the moment the 1911 is totally separate from the FindMyPast site.

Findmypast say they will be including the 1911 in their subscription package later this year - I think the lady mentioned July?? She named the Explorer package which is currently £89.95 per year - discounts sometimes available. What she didn't say was whether the cost of the Explorer package would be increased. Will have to wait and see. Many of us have already paid for credits.

FindMyPast said (in their January newsletter, I think) that there will be a new subscription package launched which will include 1911.  Explorer subscribers will have to pay a supplement for 1911 access.  No prices have yet been quoted.

“The census will be available on findmypast.com later this year, as part of a brand new subscription package. Existing findmypast.com subscribers will be offered an add-on package at a preferential rate.”

There is some acrimonious discussion on the 1911 blog about this.  People who took out FindMyPast subs in response to the December marketing campaign feel they have been misled.  I can understand why.

Many thanks for your replies.  I think I will wait a while and plan exactly how many lookups I want to make before deciding what to do.

All the best

Not sure if the latest news is up somewhere but I can't find it posted anywhere obviously.

Good news from the blog for Durham and the remaining Yorks Ridings:

Quote
Next 3 English counties: preparing for loading
March 3rd, 2009

We are preparing the next counties for loading onto the website during March. Depending on the speed of the data load and any problems found, we anticipate they should be available in 2-3 weeks.

At a minimum we will load the 2 remaining Ridings of Yorkshire and Durham. We may be able to get one or two others in at the same time if all goes well.
