Hi Olga and welcome to rootschat.
If you think your couple might have married after 1837 then the first place to try is freebmd.. goggle for the site.   It's free.

Do  you know where they lived and when that might have been because census lookups then become a possibilty.

Do you know William's occupation?
get back to us and tell us how you get on and if they are on freebmd.

good hunting,

charlotte

Hi Charlotte,

Have tried free bmd without any luck.My ggg grandfather William Beresford was a chair maker ,hes was born in Fenton staffordshire in 1812, When my gg grandfather also William they where living in Market St in 1852. His wife Mary Ellen nee Shorrocks does not appear on the 1861 census, her last child was born in 1855, I know William senior was dead when my gg grandfather married in 1887.This period was when my gg grandfather moved to the n/west. I have requested their marriage lines but with out success so I am a lost.

Hi again,
They could have been married before 1837- age would have made this possibel- say at 20 yrs old which makes it 1832 so that changes the whole game.

Do you know when/where was their first child born?

Olga

Sarah (Anne) was born & baptised in 1846, rather than 1848 (this is consistent with the 1851 census which Tati has given you):

SARAH ANNE BERESFORD
Birth:  24 September 1846
Baptism:  29 October 1846
St Oswald, Ashbourne, Derbyshire

Parents:  WILLIAM BERESFORD & MARY ELLEN

Hi All

Did not know that they had a child Thomas Major .I got some detailson the 1861 census and as I said before there was no Elizabeth(mother) and no Thomas, so this may not be the same family? But on my gg grandfathers birth certificate the definetly lived in Market Street.

Many Thanks

Olga

Hi OlgaD,

This is a longshot I know, but my gr.gr.grandfather was a Thomas M. Beresford.

I have not been able to find his birth as I have insufficent information, and as he was washed overboard and his body not recovered, there was no death certificate.

He was born around 1845.

So, I am wondering if you know what happened to your Thomas Major Beresford?

Many thanks,

Bumbelina

Hiya Olga

Welcome to Rootschat!

A copy of one of the childrens birth certificates will give Mary Ellens maiden name

I'm wondering if its Major as a maiden name is often given as a middle name
